XD-S

KAS, I too am waiting for the 9.

Gb, that seems a bit bigger thant he pocket pistols I'm used to, but still very nice. Also appears to be one of the few single-stack sub-compacts to include a rail. I'm of course comparing it to the pocket pistols I'm used to.

I just cannot convince myself that 6 shots from a .45 is as good as 11 from a +P 9mm and the gun that already works for me. I do like the concept, just .45 don't work so well IMHO in pocket guns. I'm going to let the gun prove itself in other's hands first before I think about wanting one. :D

Put me down for the .40 version when they come out with it. Can't be too long.
Part of me wonders if they came out with .45 first to set themselves apart from all the other single stacks from other major brands that were slated to come out about the same time.
Can the XDs take 1911 mags? That would certainly be a pull for .45 fans.

Great looking pistol. I have 3 XDs already. The 45 is tempting, but I'm going to hold out for the 9mm. Might even replace my PF9 as the preferred carry.

Thank you all for your comments!:)

If I go for the Springer,I think I'd rather get the XDM 45c...There's barely any difference size wise and you get at least 9 + 1 with the small mag...T
Personally, I believe the difference in grip width is significant, but the XD-S and XDM45 Compact are similar in height (with the XD-S being .7" shorter in OAL). That said, if the grip width is not an issue, I think the XDM would be an excellent choice for you.

Thanks! It is bigger than some of my pocket pistols as well:

Not to worry, lots of folks are in denial about what works:D. The XD-S is probably not a pistol for everybody, rather just another option and to my mind that's a good thing.:)

OP are you planning on using this for pocket carry, or IWB?
For daily carry in public, most likely IWB. For quick trips out to the car, taking the trash out, walking the dogs, and other tasks about the homestead, pocket carry is a likely scenario.

Can the XDs take 1911 mags?
1911 mags fit in the XD-S's mag well, but do no lock in place.

Greg

FWIW, of the pistols I have, my Kahr CW9 seems the closest in size to the XD-S.

Nice gun and very small for .45, but it would have to cost around $500 for me to bite.

The XDm might only be a quarter inch wider than the XDs, but it's a lot heavier. XDm 45C is 27 oz, XDs 21.5 oz.

Interesting. Would it feed if it was held in? (do you have any snap-caps or dummy rounds to test with?)
Officer size would fit, I assume? I wonder if I could take some of the less expensive 1911 officer magazines and make a new cutout for the XD mag catch. If the catch cutout is in front the way a doublestack XD magazine's is, it wouldn't even interfere with use as a 1911 magazine.

Obviously, function/reliability testing with factory magazines first, but the possibility of cheapo range-only mags moves the XDS up the "want to buy" list a few slots.

If held in place, it will feed from a 1911 magazine, but I had to hold the mag slightly lower. When it's completely up in mag well, the front side of the 1911 mag interferes with slide lock (holds it up). I imagine some materiel could be trimmed from the magazine tube there and it would work. The catch cutouts are in the front of the magazine. Officer's mags are about .5" longer than the XD-S mags.

Congrats. I am jealous. I have been hunting one here in SW Ohio for about a month. No one seems to have them. I did shoot one in St Louis earlier this year at the NRA convention. I was sold and hooked. I couldn't believe how it handled and how accurate it was. I will get one as soon as I find one here locally.

Man, thanks for that side by side with the KT P11. Your P11 seems to be almost up to mine for pocket wear of the finish, LOL. I've been toting mine for 16 years now and it's a little crusty, but still works fine. The XDS looks a bit larger, but I have room in my pockets for one, I think. Probably would carry it OWB, though. It's short enough for a long tailed shirt to be pretty secure in concealing it. :D

You know, I trust 9x19, but I do often, today even, carry a 5 shot .38. Ain't how big the bullet is, but where you put it. I have a .45 and am set up with dies and molds for the caliber. I'd rather the .45 than a .40 which I would have to buy molds and dies for. .40 tends to be kinda rough in little guns, too.

Cool, good to see people are actually getting their hands on these.

I REALLY want to see an XDS next to a Kahr PM9/CM9

Picked mine up on Sat.$525 out the door with NICs. Range time: 150 rounds, 1 box Federal, 1 box Remington ball, 2 boxes; Speer and Hornaday. No FTF or FTE issues. Recoil was not as bad as my KT P11. Once I got used to it kept all within 9-10 ring at 7 yards.

As others have shown, slightly smaller than my CW40. Fits OK in front pocket. Looking for a holster.

Replacing the CW40 for CCW.

Great purchase, typical SA quality.

Looked for one at the local gun show this past weekend. No such luck..... all of the dealers
(locals) said there wouldn't be any in the Las Vegas area until late August. Can't wait to get my hands on one.

I checked with a number of dealers last weekend at a Knoxville show. No one had one, none had seen one. Springfield should take a page from the S&W shield play book for new product intro. :cuss: strike while the iron is hot.

A person can carry an extra .45 mag. Not advocating one round over the other.

I've wanted one of these since SHOT. And if I were still living in Texas, where I could easily buy bulk ammo off the internet, I'd own one by now.

I got a Walther PPS .40 instead, to complete a set of carry guns in .45, .40 and 9mm. Just in case certain calibers are sold out.

Am I a bad person for laughing at the classic Kel-Tec product launch response being applied to S.A.inc?

They made something cool and told you about it, the marketing has done better than expected and there's a production bottleneck. Don't panic, you'll get one eventually.
