XD45 On the Way

Just ordered an XD45, 5", with thumb safety. Any tips from XD owners, i.e. aftermarket sights, good source of home-how-to-do trigger jobs, etc? Feedback, complaints, likes, dislikes ??

I plan on ordering some XD specific bullets from Missouri Bullet to get started.
 
I've got the Compact. Put 250+ rounds thru it with no issues, dispite the brand of ammo. If you havent used a pistol with the grip safety it took a while to ge used to - I kept gripping too hard and pulling the shots to the right (I'm left handed). Once I got used to it the gun proved very accurate. You should be pleased.
 
My XD45's don't perform well with 200 LSWC. If you're buying from Missouri Bullet Company, get a 1000 rounds of the 200 grain RNFP. Great stuff; advertised as being designed specifically for the XD.
 
One of my favorite pistols in my stable. I even own one of the "newer" XDm models...and still like the XD45 Compact better. The fact that you can change the grip size w/2 different sized magazines is just an awesome thing.

I have fed it many, many different size/types of ammunition....from premium HP's, to FMJ...185, 200, 230 gr....it eats it all like candy.

The fact the XD45 does not digest the H&G 200 LSWC is what has kept me away for so long. I estimate I shoot close to 10K per year using this bullet in 45 alone. I finally decided if I'm going to go XD, might as well do it right.

I seriously considered a G21 but I prefer cast bullets and didn't want to use an aftermarket barrel.

Are there any aftermarket recoil springs and sights for the XD? Are there any do it at home trigger mods?
 
One thing for sure, I honestly believe that you will dearly love your
Springfield Armory .45 caliber XD Tactical model. I have the very
first 4" [service model] .45 caliber XD too arrive in the State Of
Alabama; and its by far my most favorite gun of all the polymer
frame guns. The only addition I have made to it, is the fact that
I added a set of Tru-Glo (Green) TFO sights to it; replacing the
three white dot system. This firearm is highly accurate, as you
can get a good, high grip on the weapon; not to mention that
these ole' eyes benefit from the TFO sights. On my very last
trip to the firing range, it was the only weapon that made the
trip. Breakdown for cleaning/lubrication is very simple; one of
the easiest I have ever encountered~! Enjoy~ ;) :D

Not every XD45 poorly feeds a LSWC; mine do. Fortunately, Missouri Bullet Company's 200 grain RNFP feeds well, and is accurate, with both of mine. The xdtalk forum that Mike J mentioned is a good place for parts. For that matter, so is MidwayUSA. I've bought magazines, and firing pin springs from them.

One other thing; should I get another job soon, I'll be getting the 4" Service model to complement my two 5" Tactical models.
 
Got the XD45 Service. Its very accurate. Didn't do anything to it. Use mostly WWB.
 
Thanks all for the input. I have all but given up on polymer framed pistols. I've tried Glock, FNP, M&P, and Taurus. I considered an H&K and recently handled a new one at a gunshop. It felt great, but I would never pay 1k+. Used ones run around $650-$700.

I have always wanted an XD45. If this one doesn't pan out, I'll stick will steel from here on out.

Thanks for the praise. XD's have been universally positive; I have never heard any negatives of consequence. I may try some 200 LSWC's initially since I have a bunch already loaded.
 
I had an XD 45 for a while. I traded it off in preference to my 1911 45's, but it was a fine gun. It also fed my 200 Gr SWC loads fairly well, so who knows, a little tweaking of O.A.L., and perhaps they would be OK.
 
I really love my XD 45 ACP Tactical and it gets a lot of trigger time on the range. It's more or less just a fun pistol that I press into a plinker role and one I think I'll always keep.
 
I have a XD 45 service with Trijicon sights. It is my workhorse pistol. If I leave my place I have it. It sleeps in my bedroom at night. And it is the most common pistol you will find me carrying around my place. The xdtalk site is good for research but I don't spend too much time there anymore. The trigger will smooth out. Clean and lube the trigger parts and dryfire it a lot.

Mine has a short and tight throat. I had to play with seating depth on my lead bullets.

The only problem I have had, that may not effect you, was that the right side of the mag release lines up perfectly with my tractor seat. If you have ever pulled a pistol out of its holster and noticed it was way too light it will get you attention.

If you have a double action revolver take it out and shoot it a little before you shoot the XD. I'm always more accurate when I do this. If I take my SAA with the slick trigger out first I always pull a few shots getting used to the longer trigger pull.

XD tactical holsters

Hello all; Has anyone found a military flap (Biachi Universal style) holster to fit a Springfield Tactical 5 inch .45acp? Leather but I prefere the sturdy nylon military models.:banghead:

Have only put 100 WWB and about 30 Winchester SXZ 45 Personal Protection rounds through it due to bad weather EVERY WEEKEND!!!

I was looking for a Glock 21, but I shot a friends XD45 at the range and it felt right in my hand. So I debated on the compact but in the end got the full size.

The sights take some getting used to IMO, but I think after a few more trips to the range I will have it fully dialed in.
 
Picked mine up on Tuesday (2-12) and hope to shoot it this weekend. I can see some trigger work down the road if I can "bond" with it. I like the feel and simplicity of the design. I manually fed some of my LSWC handloads and they did fine, but this is not a real world test by any means.

I borrowed a really nicely tricked out G21 from a friend a few weeks ago and really like it a lot. I decided to go with the XD because I've never owned one (had several Glocks in the past, but no G21).
 
The XD45 is one of the most reliable .45s I've ever seen. Only bested by the G21.

Nothing needed to do for the trigger its smooth right out of the box.

Federal 230gn is good for plinking, avoid UMC.
Remington Goldensabre 230gn bonded or Win Ranger T is good for defense ammo.
 
VERY cool tan XD!...

I love my XD45. Its dependable and shoots well. Don't have 1 bone to pick with it. Its been flawless through many many rounds and a lot of different ammo.
