Does anyone out there object to the aggressive grip texture of the XDs models? If so, what are you doing about it?

I don't mind the texture but did cover it with a Talon Grip wrap in the rubberized texture. The .45acp model has stout recoil and I needed something to help me get some extra grip. My off hand was shifting during recoil. That and just hanging on tighter helped.

I don't find it too aggressive at all. The mild recoil of the .45 has not been an issue for me. Haven't shot the 9.

My wife just bought an XDm 45. Neither of us commented on its grip's texture. We've shot the XDs and no comments then either.

I thought it might be an issue, but it turned out fine for any reasonable amount of shooting. (The Mrs wanted an XD(S)45 when they came out)

For a seriously extended session I might use a light glove, but I've run 150 rounds or so in one session and had no grip issues.

I put a Talon rubber grip on mine but I never felt like the texture was too aggressive. The only issue I had with mine was that I was experiencing trigger slap during extended shooting (100 rounds or more).

I recently rented and test fired several duty-sized 9mm pistols. I thought the XD(M)9 grip texture was over-the-top, like a styling exercise gone wrong. It reminded me of an old-time pineapple hand grenade or the ridiculous tread designs of current off-road tires. It was a point I held against the design.

I'm dealing with it by buying a Ruger SR9 this summer. It reminded me the most of a polymer take on a steel framed pistol, like a CZ75 or Hi-Power.

Before I bought my XDs I read a comment on here about the aggressive texture tearing up someone's hand. So when I first shot mine, I wore a glove. After I went through the first magazine, I took the glove off, and never felt the need to put it back on. I shot 100 rounds that first session and I didn't have any issues with a sore hand or anything else.

The only thing I can figure is that the complainant, was not using a proper grip and the pistol was moving in his hand causing the issues.

Here's what the Talon grip looks like:

I think the checkering on the grip is fantastic, and what allows me to shoot my Xds quickly and accurately. The gun doesn't slip out of my hand.

I can shoot a box of .45 with no complaints. it has never bothered my hands.

I'm picking up an XD-S from my FFL guy tonight ... can't wait. :D

I don't like the texture and wrapped electrical tape around the grip between the top of the mag well to just below the grip safety. That took the bite out and I can still feel the ridges.

I picked up my XD-S tonight and have no problem with the grip texture. I will say that the Shield grip feels better which may be due to the shape as much as anything else. My FFL buddy and I shot 40 rounds of Remington 230gr MC with no issues and we both agreed that the XD-S in .45 Auto was "nicer" to shoot than his Shield in .40 S&W. All in all a great little pistol. I'll shoot a few boxes of Golden Saber 230gr BJHP and some Barnes TAC-XPD and if all is good this will replace my SIG P239 for EDC.
