I used the Big Dot sights on a Walther PPS. That's pretty much the extent of my familiarity with them.

It was real fast to use and pick up for short range fast drills, not so great for fine work in trying to hit smaller plates or targets.

Since then I've discovered Ameriglo's and have those on several pistols. Those work a bit better for smaller plates at +25yds as they're an illuminated front sight and the rear uses a conventional slot rather than a large dot hovering over a line.

    I've used them on a Glock 17 and 19, a 1911, and a SIG 226.

While they give the impression of being faster to use, they aren't. The bigger dot on the front sight is easier to see (because it is bigger) but it isn't faster to align than a regular notch/post sight set.

The rounded top front blade combined with the wide set rear ears make determining elevation alignment a bit "iffy" at best. At distance, the XS sights actually hinder more than they help.

Like Ghost Ring sights, Express sights work very well on a long arm, but it's advantages don't translate well to a handgun

This is pretty much my experience as well. They’re very fast for fairly close, fair large targets. Smaller targets or longer ranges is more difficult.
I’ll also say most people that shoot mine don’t like them.

Had them on a Colt New Agent. Great for very quick, short range acquisition; not so great for more precise shooting at more distant targets
