Yard sale finds

I was at an automotive swap meet (great places for gun paraphernalia and old woodworking tools) and ran across a guy with a Lee Hand Press and an older Lyman turret press. I inquired about them and made a deal. He then said he had some “other stuff” and proceeded to pull out, wait for it, 10,000 primers of various types, a bunch of 223 brass, a bunch of 30 Herrett brass, and two ARs. He said the show wouldn’t let him display that stuff.

Well I jumped all over the primers and brass. Aside from the awkward questions I would have gotten toting 2 ARs out of the swap meet I was across state lines and wasn’t going to go down that road.

I got all of it for $120. This was 2 years ago.
nice SCORE!!!

With that kind of luck hope you play the big money lottos. :neener:

My wife found a Mec Versa Mec 700 in 12 gauge , bag of #8 shot, pound of Unique, and three bags of Remington wads, plus a universal charge bar for $100.00. Wasn't a bad deal and have that loader dedicated to 1 ounce trap loads.
Excellent buy. Unique is almost impossible to find. I could use some. G. B.'s auction prices are outrageous and that's if you can even find it for auction.

My brother in law does estate sales and just texted me some pics of a reloading bench, asking if I was interested in anything. Tough to see exactly what's there under the heaps of stuff, but I was able to see at least a dozen sets of dies, a couple thousand primers, and a Dillon press. Guy died 20 years ago and nothing's been used since. Since it's not going to be a public sale I get my pick of whatever's there. I'm meeting him Thursday morning. Could be gravy.

Let us know how you make out.

Month or so ago my dad got a Lee handloader, 4 sets of Hornady dies, trimmer, scales, hammer type bullet puller, 400 primers and 300 bullets for $30.
A week later he got 1400 SPP and a couple hundred bullets for $10.

I haven't gotten a good deal on anything reloading related for a while.
I did buy an old Starret and a Brown & Sharpe dial indicator set for $5 each. I did ok on them.

I did meet an older guy having a yard sale and while leaving empty handed, he apologized for not having anything to sell me. I smiled and said "Mama's in the jeep watching me, so I'm only looking for very specific things. Anything shooting or reloading".
He said he has a bunch of reloading stuff but didn't get around to sorting it. I gave him my contact info in case he decides to go through it.

you guys gave all the luck! only thing I every caught was a trespassing notice

I've been pretty lucky so far this year, arround Memorial Day we were at flea market in Dickson City PA, found a v9 weaver, saw a Nikon postaff, and a hornandy 3 hole turret press, but that was in bad shape and missing more parts than I thought I could acquire although o do have a 3 hole turret head that I bought with 4 223 rem dies.

I'd of bought the ARs in a heartbeat. But I guess that's just me!!

They sure do, wish I still had all them I used to post most in the 2011 flood. Still have a nib 4/0 and 6/0 and a small level line, for her if it's a squider or piermaster. I have about 100 nib spools tho.

I moved to Utah from Southern California 20 years ago. I still have my 4/0, 6/0 and a 500. I smile whenever I see them up on the garage shelf. Mostly trout fishing here. I miss ocean fishing.

I guess I'd be a drive for you to salt water, nothing like east coast fish tho. By June I get tired of fresh water and get a thirst for salt, but only have the money to go a time of two a year if I'm lucky. Missed out last year, hope to get out soon this year. Wish I wasn't 1.5 hours away.

I got lucky a couple of times. I bought a Remington 700 ADL stock last week for $20. Had some nice wood. The best yard sale find was a Compact Ruger 77 Stainless Laminate chambered in 260 Rem. It had a junker scope that I replaced with a 2-7X Leupold. Shot a few deer with it and sold it for $250 profit. If it had been blue/walnut I would still have it. It was perfect for the kind of deer hunting that I do.

I always sniff around yard sales for firearms and reloading stuff. Purchased several firearms and enough reloading stuff to set up IIRC seven reloaders with enough equipment to reload at least one caliber complete with brass, propellant, and bullets. Still have a LOT of stuff spare yet. Have also been able to set up a second identical reloading bench at the family farm complete with dies and components for everything.

Life Goals!!!!

So here's the haul from the private sale my brother-in-law let me horn in on:

Dillon RL450 press with six caliber conversion kits and two powder reservoirs (some surface rust, but very serviceable)
RCBS lube sizer and half a dozen bullet sizing dies
Dillon Super Swage 600
13 sets of reloading dies, mostly RCBS
Collet bullet puller
Inertial bullet puller
RCBS powder trickler
Three plastic loading blocks
Lyman beam scale (missing the pan, need to call Lyman)
Lee Loader (missing powder scoop)
Lee 12 gauge Load-All II (new in box)
RCBS Uniflow powder measure
Four Lee bullet molds
Numerous "smalls" (powder funnel, a bunch of decapping pins, Lee cartridge trimmers, RCBS primer tray, etc.)
Two flip-top shell boxes
1700 bullets of varying calibers (6.5mm, 7mm, 7.5mm, 8mm, .308) plus partial boxes
300 fired rifle cases (.308 & .223)
90 virgin rifle cases (6.5 x 55 and 7mm Mauser)
Box of 12 gauge No. 4 shells
2000 rounds .22 LR ammo
450 rounds .22 WMR ammo
50 rounds .357 mag ammo
Seven pounds of powder (1# each of IMR4350, IMR4831, IMR4198 and Unique, 3# IMR4320, all unopened)
4000+ primers (1400 CCI LR is the largest portion)

I paid him $750 for all that. Some of it I will keep and use, some of it I will sell. Being fairly conservative about what I can get for most of it, at the very least I'll wind up with some free equipment, components and ammo. Not really trying to make a profit. Funny thing is, when he first sent me pics what really interested me was the primers. While I didn't itemize the list when I paid him, I figure I got them for around 2.5₵ each, which is a win in and of itself.
