I finally picked up a #1 rifle! Always have wanted a big bore one to play with. Finally found one that had to follow me home. Owner of the LGS was cleaning out some of his personal rifles and this one caught my eye. Ruger #1 in .458 Win Mag. Now my buddy's smoking because I had to go and one up his .450 Marlin

(Apparently Photobucket has changed it's 3rd party policies and I've been out of the loop. Hopefully Google Drive is a workable solution)

Congrats on the great acquisition! And in .458 Winchester Mag. no less! The Ruger Number 1 is one of the all-time classic single shot rifles ever made. Now you can start making plans for that safari you always wanted to take!

Very nice! She's a beauty. It will be fun. I had a #1 458WinMag for a while, but got rid of it last year. Shooting stout 400gr loads in a T-shirt off a bench really got my attention. Those red "recoil" pads sure get hard with age.

I love Ruger No. 1s, got couple NO. 3s too....my favorite is Varminter in .22-250, fixin to buy one in .450 Bushmaster, laminate stock, stainless barrel...why...cause its a Ruger No. 1 !!!!

If something goes wrong with the ammo, the safest place for it to happen is in a #1.

Someone fired one shot of this Blue Dot 223 ammo in a Rem700 and needed medical attention. I shot a quantity of it in a #1 and decided I was throwing away the rest of the 1,000 rounds. 223 35 gr vmax 15 gr Blue Dot Ruger #1V 6-2016 shot at prairie dogs.jpg

The guys that heard me shooting 7mmRemMag #1 at this moving doe at 400 yards said it sounded like a machine gun. Prone on a bipod with a cheek rest ammo belt can make the #1 a fast follow up single shot.

I've owned & own several #1's & #3's & but I've always want a #1 tropical in .458 Win. I believe that would be the ultimate cast bullet rifle ever. Maybe I'll come across one someday when I've got enough cash in my pocket to bring it home!

Congratulations - let the fun & shooting begin!

My brother has several #1s. His favorite is a .243 with which he has killed dozens of deer. I have a .204 and have killed 100s of p-dogs with mine. Lot of fun to shoot and mine is the prettiest gun I own with gorgeous wood.

Some tough elephant shooting guy I know right now just got the rotator cuff surgery from injury on monkey swing over the mud in a marathon.
He cannot hunt deer this year, even with a handgun, left handed.

Man I've been after a Ruger #1 for ages, I do have a #3 in 30-40Krag, but I've always wanted a #1 in .223, .243, .270 especially, or 30-06, even another 30-40Krag wouldn't be out of the question. A few years ago I was at a local gun show and found a beautiful #1 in .270 for $650.00 and after walking about 10-15 yards in the other direction, turned around to make the deal, and it was already being made by a fellow with a big wad of money. Dang never again will I by pass such a treasure.

The rifle is certainly cool. Beautiful. Got one in 30-06. My big hands, especially with gloves, always seems to hit the release to open the action by accident.

I love my No. 1A in 6.5x55 SE. It delivers 0.75" 100-yard 3-shot groups and will knock over a deer with 1 or 2 steps with a well-placed hit. Light, short, and handy with a 2.5-8x36 Leupy VX3, it is a delightful hunting rifle. As a single-shot rifle, it is a wonderful sporting rifle and puts a premium on marksmanship...to which every hunter should aspire.

I love Ruger hunting rifles and Vaquero SAA clones. Great company, great products.

Good shooting,

Harry

The falling block action is one of the few I have never shot or owned, and coming from a Scots Clan Farquarson family that makes those #1 actions based on the Farquarson even more special!
Nice find!! Someday a #1 in .300 H&H (and maybe a sibling .375 H&H) will become a part of my life...

I own Winchester 1885 45/70 , Uberti 1885 257RAI [shot deer with this], Browning 1885 7mmRM [shot deer with this]. Browning B78 7mmRM [shot deer with this], Ruger #1V 223 [shot prairie dogs and ground squirrels], Ruger #1 270, Ruger #1 7mm Rem Mag [shot deer with this].

That is (7) falling blocks and I love them all.
I do have a Davenport 12 ga, and Crackshots, and other weak falling blocks that do not count.

My brother has a Ruger #1 223 and keeps using a 223 bolt action:(

Here is a Ruger #1 270 that I converted to Weaver rail, but hogging out an AR15 riser.

What is that terrible looking "groove" on so many Ruger Number ` fore arms I see supposed to be or be used for?

The No.1 is such a beautiful rifle I've never bought one for fear of putting that first scratch in it.

I have a stainless steel Ruger #1 458 Lott barrel.
It looks very good inside for a factory barrel.
My guess is someone took it off because it kicked too hard.
The only notes I have on it are "$41 + $10 shipping = $51"
My guess is that I got it off Ebay 10 years ago.

You are a braver person than I am .

I'm proud of my new to me Ruger #2. For the uninitiated, a #2 is a Ruger #3 with Ruger #1 wood. Mine sports a 22" Shilen varmint weight barrel chambered in 6.8mm SPC II. (Yes, I know, the 6.8 SPC is normally an AR cartridge.)
