Yeah! Just picked up a Gold Cup

I just picked up a 80 Series Gold Cup National Match for a good price. Should I keep it and have the "evil 80 series" parts changed out by my smith and put it with my other Browning designs or should I trade/sell it for another 1911-type?

I'll shoot it at the Coal Creek THR get-together this afternoon. I may like it enough to keep it.

Gold Cups are nice pistols and I think you will like it. I took the Series 80 parts out of my Delta Elite and put in a spacer to take up the space left by the Series 80 frame parts. A number of people claim that the Series 80 parts increase trigger pull and it does, probably by as much as two ounces, so I am not buying into that one. I do feel that the Series 80 parts and any firing pin safety system adds more little parts that can break. That being said, I think the Series 80 system is reliable and is usually durable. I suggest you try it as is and see if you like it and if it really needs any work.

I don't have a problem with any Series 80 additional safety components. I have two Series 80 and a Series 70, and like shooting each of them. If you don't like the additional safety components, rip them out. For me, if the gun shoots reliably and accurately, I'd keep it. I'm not one for modifying guns. I just want them to shoot when I want them to and shoot where I am aiming, but......if you want to upgrade, you have the gun for it. If I could find a "steal" on another Colt, I'd buy it......I just can't seem to get myself to purchase a non-Colt 1911......yet.
