Yet another “What Should I Carry?” topic – The “I’m just a little guy” Edition

Maybe you should look at a Makarov or CZ 82. These are chambered in 9x18 and you can pick them up in the $200 - $250 range in good to very good condition. That leaves you with enough left over for a nice carry rig and some practice ammo. They are nothing fancy but just may fit your need. Just something to consider.

while i do carry my cz-82 sometimes, it's not exactly ideal for that purpose. it's heavy for its size, and the grip is pretty fat due to the double stack mag. it would probably not be my recommendation as someone's only carry gun. (although it is my recommendation to buy one just because. can't beat it for the price)

Thank you all again for the continued suggestions. By the time I’ve purchased my gun I’ll be exhausted from all the research.

With all the praise for the S&W 39 series, I’ll make it a point to check those out.

Looks like my biggest hurdle will be finding a range in my area that has my kind of guns to try out. The local range here only has high end stuff out of my price range (no Bersa’s, Keltec’s, etc.) so I don’t really see the point of going there, and the range the next town over doesn’t rent at all. Looks like it’s going to take a road trip to try out everything I want.

My reasoning for wanting a manual safety is that being my first handgun, I think it would give me a little more peace of mind when handling it. I of course will always follow the rules and treat it like it’s always loaded and ready to go, but until I’m handling one every single day and get more acquainted with it, I feel having a manual safety would make me a little more comfortable.
I’m open to opinions on that as well.

Thank you very much for the advice on belts, I’ve been thinking a lot about types of holsters of course but haven’t given too much thought about belts. I work at a fairly casual place (jeans, t-shirts, sweatshirts, etc.) and the belt I use now is a little light, I think I will definitely need to upgrade.

First thing first, I’m looking for an entry level gun in the $400 and under range, preferably in 9mm with a manual safety of some sort

3rd gen S&W

I am going with the other guys that said S&W 3913/3914, I think they are accurate and concealable.

I stand only 5'5" and weigh 150 pounds and can easily hide a Taurus Millenium Pro in .45 easily in an IWB holster. The Taurus also has a safety.

Add me to the quality gun belt crowd. No, a bad holster is still bad, but a good stiff and thick belt makes a HUGE difference. Don't be cheap.
