I have several 9mm's and this was the year I was going to get something else.

Well, a new President and an ammo shortage later, I'm without a new toy.

I've got enough 9mm ammo, and don't have an issue with the round, but I just don't think I'll get the sense of excitement from another pistol chambered in 9mm like I would from getting something completely new and different.

I know others are posting they can get ammo, but where I'm at, I haven't seen anything other than a few shotshells, and .17 hmr since the first week of January.

Things could suddenly change tomorrow, but I have more of a feeling it will still be until early next year.

So do you think I should just get a 9mm version of whatever I was interested in, or hold off? One side of my brain hails all the benefits of sticking with the 9, the other half just screems "BORING!"

Buy what you want. Have fun and don't worry about it.

I bought a GSG 5 because I have a boat load of 22lr and I can get more. And it's a lot of fun.

Do you have any 9mm carbines?

Maybe that change would hit the spot!
Probably the best 9MM carbine is the Beretta CX4. Lots of options and accessories but a little expensive. Get the one that uses 92FS mags. Less expensive option is the Hi Point 9MM Carbine. They hold up well but only have a single stack mag.

SIG,or p-95 on your plate yet? those are my latest choices(just bought p-95).

Heck, this is a tough time for ammo, but assuming things are going to ease up I'd really consider a .45. It's really a fun caliber to shoot, effective, and to me not at all difficult to handle. Some/most find the .40 to be snappy, but the .45 is more of a push. I find there to be nothing boring about a .45. Many of the 1911's are great guns but I'd also consider a Smith 645, 4506, 4516 which are often available as police trade-ins. The SIG 220 is a classic as is the Ruger P90. Depending on how much you wish to spend the new HK45 is a wonderful gun. I'd also consider the S&W (Walther frame) SW99 in .45.

BTW, if you decide that you want another 9mm I'd highly recommend the CZ SP01 Phantom. There's nothing boring about that gun.

I know this is in the autoloader forum, but have you considered a revolver? Ruger makes a Blackhawk Convertible that comes with a .357 magnum cylinder and a 9mm cylinder. That way, you have 2 calibers in 1 new gun. And everyone needs a good single-action revolver in their collection.

Oooh, that is an interesting thought I never thought of.

Unfortunately, I suspect I'll have a tough go of it, since I live in Kali.

Yes, I actually was looking at a .357 revolver, but can't find any of that ammo. I was not aware though that they had models that had interchangeable 9mm cylinders.

That brings up another interesting thought though.

I know Sig 229 40's have the option of 9mm conversion barrels.

Any others with easy conversion barrel swaps, that I can pick up in .40 or .45, and get a 9mm barrel to use until the ammo for the other calibers is more readily available?

You could get a Beretta 96 (.40S&W) and a slide/barrel combo for a 92 (9mm).

Keep in mind, with the Ruger Blackhawk Convertible, you essentially get 3 calibers (.357, .38, 9mm) in one gun for about $500. The Sig 229 alone is around $800, without a conversion barrel. With the extra $300 you'd save, you could buy another gun, like a .22 plinker, or a lot of 9mm ammo.

Nice..can that be used in Cowboy action shooting? Not that I'm going to do that, just wondering.

the eaa witness' do a barrel change. and the mech tech ccu turns your glock into carbine. keltec sub 2000 looks interesting.

EVERYONE needs to have a 45acp and a .357 magnum in their safes. My recommendations to you would be to find yourself a nice HK45 (one of the nicest overall pistols I've EVER shot) and a nice used Colt Python shooter.

As far as ammo is concerned, if you're near a mailbox, you're near an ammo store. I have had NO COMPLAINTs whatsoever getting all my ammo needs met by:

www.natchezss.com

Whenever I'm near a Walmart, I still check it out, but Natchez Shooters Supplies have had great prices and service. (Shipping charges are softened by the fact that you don't pay any sales tax.)

Don't know if you've ever shot a full load .357 magnum before, but it's NOTHING like shooting a 9mm. First of all, you take that Python to the range, and even with ear protection on, you can hear the whispers, "Hey, that old fart has one of those famous Colt Pythons." Then you load that baby up, squeeze the trigger with that one-of-kind-smooth-as-silk action, and BAM!!!! the shock wave of your bullet starts moving down the stalls on either side of you with a hellacious BOOOOOOOOM! At this point it's impossible to prevent a big ass smirk to appear on your face as you bring down that front sight and start aiming on that doomed target - ha! Five more to go!

Yes, if you don't want something "boring" anymore, get yourself a sweet Python while you still can. (They will only go UP in value.)

P.S. Mods: Sorry, yes, I know this is the AutoLoader section, and I did recommend getting a HK45, but I couldn't resist - he asked for something that wasn't boring.

get yourself something--1911 in .38 super. lot's of fun there. then get yourself a 9 mm replacement barrel and you are off to the races. takes one whole minute to change.

I never thought I'd purchase a .40 S&W anything since I had 9mms and .45s. Over time though I gave it a little more thought until I knew I'd get one at some point in the future, but my plan yesterday was for a Remington or Mossberg shotgun. Instead I wound up getting a Taurus PT840 instead of the shotty. Also, I thought when I got a .40 it would be a PT100/101 or Springfield XD/XDm but I'm extremely pleased with the PT840 :)
