How do handgun/long gun sales FTF work if I am out of my home state? (MO Resident/MO CCW licensed, but in WA state for now)

I have been told by an FFL he couldn't sell me anything, then the FFl up the street did (shotgun).

I wanna new toy!:cuss::):D

For FTF sales you and the buyer/seller have to be residents on the same state, per federal law. As far as MO resident in WA state goes, you cannot buy or sell FTF legally in WA if you're still considered a resident of MO, for that you'd have to work something out with an FFL.

Unless precluded by state law, you can buy a rifle or shotgun in any state,provided that the rifle or shotgun is legal in your home state. For a handgun, you must be a resident of the state you wish to purchase the handgun in or have the handgun transferred to an FFL in your home state.

I'm going home in the spring. Guess I'll have to stock up! I just kinda think I need a NAA revolver, and a little Kahr or KT single stack 9, that matching set of levergun and revolver in .44 and SS, and a new .45, and a 10 mm maybe that new Delta....:D:neener::D

I wonder if that will put my checkec bag over the weight limit on the plane?:what:

Oops I forgot to add the handgun part to my post, oh well, at least other members are astute enough to point that out this time of night.

If you are spending that much time in the state, you can technically qualify as a resident and get a state ID so you can purchase handguns as well as long guns. I did this when I came as a student. Check out the WA DOL website about the requirements to get a state ID - you need to show mail and utilities, etc. at your current address, or similar things. They will issue you a State ID card (no need to surrender your MO DL). This is fine for handgun purchases on both the BATF 4473 as well as the state form (there is a state form also on handgun purchases from an FFL). WA has a good gun show circuit and good stores on average, so do take advantage of it while you are here (for example, today in Puyallup!).

It also depends sometimes on why you are in the state. I know that many states have exceptions for active duty military stationed there even though your home state may be elswhere. While active duty I could buy guns in many of the places I was stationed by showing a copy of my orders and ID.
I think there are other exceptions for LEO and maybe some other types of workers.

This is correct, for the most part. The catch is you can only buy said rifle or shotgun from a FFL at his place of business. (No FTF between non-licensees)
