I am attempting to ad my voice in support of our second amendment rights by using the gun-board venue, and need your input in the form of your opinion. Please tell me what you think of my proposed new gun board. I am not trying to compete with this or other boards, but to complement and to ad to the opportunity to express our love for the sport. You can find my proposed new board here (not yet topped with a banner): http://proguns.proboards92.com/

Thank you for your support

The page looks nice.

I think you should try to find a niche, however.
At the moment, the board appears to be angling for the same crowd as here or TFL. Will you focus on particular types of guns, more on legal issues, regional interest, etc?

I am trying to keep it generic, non-gun specific so as to avoid the appearance of competition with other well established boards, to which I am also a member. I think with suggestions such as yours, my board will evolve... I really don't want to loaded up with distracting fishing expeditions. What do you all think? Keep 'em coming folks.

How about a site concentrated on the political side, Discuss and link to the different laws? I could use a good site with an evolving discussion of the laws and bills as they are proposed.

Just my 2 cents.

Good suggestion, Thylacine, although politics and religion tend to become argumentative and disruptive... let me do some thinking on this one. Thanks for your suggestion. Keep 'em coming folks.

As a follow-up, and reminder, any one posting in the new board please "bookmark" you new posts and replies to be sure you get email responses. Instructions to this effect are posted in the "Administration" section of the board. Thanks.

....any one else care to wade in with comments or suggestions about the new guy in town...my new board has a topping (Banner) now, do check it out. Thanks

Just posting the questions.
I know there are over a dozen boards online and many are operated very loosely and others are over tight or membership moderated by a ratings system.
Where would this board end up because so far as I can tell the word is barely out for this yet.

Any chance for a subforum for state pages. I know several boards have them but most do not.

Legal and\or political forum? The name on this is pro-gun forums. A legal and a political forum could be a place for national updates and discusion of current events.
I know as stated before discusion of some topics are problematic and troll fodder.

Thanks for your input txgho1911 - This board is but a few days old, and fall in the category of friendly, relaxing and oriented toward civility. The title is not necessary a "political" statement, but a statement of support for our rights and for the sport. I hope this answers your question. Thanks.

Pete

Actually I would look at many boards and take the best from each. Most sites have sections I have visited. I am sure you are the same. Good luck.

Kevin

I myself have a general gun board but was unsure how THR moderators would take to me posting it. The aim of mine is similar to THR however it is state specific and aimed right squarely at those in Oregon.

Rev. Michael.

P.S.
Incidently my board is at http://s15.invisionfree.com/Oregon_Gun_Owners/index.php
Yes it was a shameless plug but I need to get some kind of membership there. Lots of interest I am sure just not many people know.

P.P.S.
I think it's great ebout your board. More we can get on this the better. Show the POWER we ain't gonna take ti and they aren't as powerful as they would like to think they are.

Thanks Kevin and Rev. Michael. THR is one of the few boards that don't mind sharing. The way I see it is the more you give the more you get back. Loyalty is something you can't buy and can hold back. Member of this board will visit others, but will continue coming back and appreciate the freedom to do so.

One of the problems I see is that everything gets diluted if you offer what everyone else has. More people trying for the same piece of the same pie.

The most successful boards (AR & GlockTalk) are obviously specific interest but still appeal to a very wide ownership base

In my "favorites", I've got over 30 firearm/ballistic/shooting sites. This is the only "general firearms" one I frequent. I spend more time on this one than I should. I'm not going to another unless there's something of special interest not addressed here.

I'd think in terms of "Why should I go to the brand new car lot that has 8 cars when there's an established one down the street that has 2,000?" You've gotten relatively few responses to this thread which validates my point.

Redneck, thats precisely why I chose to aim my forum right at those from my state. One of the questions I see repeated here at THR ALOT, are questions regarding laws. While we can tell them a little bit about federal law, state laws differ greatly from state to state. Being the bit of the activist I am(and becoming a bigger one by the day), I can advise people of the law only in Oregon, and can refer them with a link and quotes from the Oregon Revised Statutes. I can also advise them wher the trouble area's are with certain people/organizations/etc. feeling they are above the law and can regulate when federal and state law says no. However when asked about other states I am at a complete loss. Not to mention I can(and have recently added) and Oregon ??????? of the Month award to various anti-gun people in the state(but which can also be obtained by exceptional ???????s elsewhere). The first award is already up and goes to a Sheriff in fact who has been violating state law for his own persona anti-gun political agenda and abusing his power as Sheriff. Also will have an ??????? of the year award which the reach goes world wide. Nagin is sure to be on the list of nominees as well as Australia's prime minister. Currently looking for more nominees.

This is just one possible route someone can go, and I think it's a great idea. I think every state needs an organization aside from NRA to support our rights and is rabid in their ability and willingness to take on the gun grabbers such as we have in Oregon. We have Oregon Firearms Federation headed up by Kevin Starret. One heck of a nice guy and he is a no holds barred activist who takes ZERO garbage from the gun grabbers. www.oregonfirearms.org is the URL for OFF, in case y'all are wondering.

Do you know what we REALLY need?

Oldfella,

I already visit several boards. I drop in on others occasionally. There are a lot of forums-too many maybe.

But there is no "metasite"-a webpage which contains a listing of-and links to-the various forums one can visit. You could list them by general emphasis; THR has a political bent/mission to it (and expects civil discourse), Glock Talk is about the polymer pistol, AR15.com is about the Black Rifle, SurplusRifle is a C&R treasurehouse, and Gunbroker has fun stuff for sale. Sure, most of those forums have other areas, too. But there is sufficient "lean" towards certain areas that would allow a general grouping Each header could contain things like

-Name
-General description and important rules
-How long it has been running
-Number of members

You could have links to the pro-2A organizations, pro-hunting, even links to our enemies' sites. There are dozens, maybe hundreds, of "YahooGroups" with firearm topics. I'm sure you can think of others. A nexus for all things GUN.

I would bookmark that, I promise you. :)

Thanks for your comments, suggestions and recommendations. As I stated before, every venture starts "manageable", and it grows and evolves. Initially "The Lounge" is the catch-all forum. I have already adopted the "CCW' forum as one of the suggestion mentioned. I deliberately am steering away from Politics and Religion as such; those two areas eventually breeds discord and at times creates "enemies" - again, if you wish to lightly discuss these topics, The Lounge is available to do that and other topics of your particular interest. In the CCW Forum, for example, we can discuss individual State Laws - and so on.

Again, I appreciate your input. Respectfully.
