Malpaismike, That desk is fantasic., I may have a try at building one, But knowing how limited my skills as a carpenter are, I'm a little worried about how it may turn out..

@MWeier: I would suggest that you reinforce your framing. If anyone knows even a little about stick wall construction, they can figure out that there is a 16" space somewhere in a wall they can probably kick and crawl through the drywall.

Were you going to use plywood for one or both of the partition surfaces? If I were building such a thing from scratch, I would probably screw a layer of 1/2" plywood to at least the bottom half, all the way around, shim out the top, and complete a flush drywall surface. Also, a half smart guy knows to pop the hinge pins from that door and pull it right off. You can get exterior hinges which need to be drilled out to break into.

There is also a door I know of in a certain place where the guy has two deadbolts installed. One is about a foot from the top and one is a foot from the floor. They are keyed alike. Good luck.

:(

Had a fantastic area set up in the second bedroom. Alas, it is now occupied by my stupid step daughter and 2 grandkids. I am now relocated to a small office/shop/ laundry room.

Anyone want to marry a stupid, fat, O2 wasting moron? The grandkids not included. They are staying here.

Hello the camp! ILOGILNG, I originally posted this shortly after discovering the forum--nearly first post, I think. I threw this in cuz it was still shiny:

gratuitous display of my--only in over 24 yr, thank ya--state champeen buckle. OK, a few years old now, but I got it, and am still trying.

OG, go for it. This started as a pile of on-sale studs at Lowe's--$1.19 or so. I think it was 25 of them. While I tried to half-lap the joints, results were fairly pathetic. I then learned the highly coveted and hard-to-beat art of faceframe. While you can make your own drill jig, my f-in-l had one. It made the rest of the frame construction a snap. I sawed the round edges off the matl, leaving ~1 3/8 thk. I then planed flat and smooth to ~1 1/4 thk. I glued it up in 2, then 4 then 8 sections, to fit the planer after each glueup. Final 3 sections were glued up with the beejeesus clamped outta them, and beltsanded. If I did it over, I'd use dowels to align the boards to ease glueup. I'd also make more of an overhang in front, for clamping. But, cuz I have the loading bench for clamping, the bench is just right for sitting and makin' like gun mechanic. Here's what I did this winter:

And this is the garage where more heavy duty stuff gets done.

Yup, MIV; sorta let get away from me. Didn't need them colts or old rugers ennyhoo. Stand by for targets; gotta sell a couple to pay for a couple new builds. Film at 11ought2. mm
