You won't believe what I found in the safe this morning.

Nice pair! My wife knew going in that I was a "gun guy" and shooting was always going to be my Hobie. She has become educated that MY toys actually hold there value vs most everything else we buy! Over the years she has come to view my guns as something I can enjoy as well as an investment. She has seen that time after time I am able to get a large chunk of my money back if i decide to trade guns. Yes; bills and needs come first. Honesty is the best policy. Let her know UP FRONT who you are; including the fact that you are going to continue to buy guns after the bills are paid. Educate her that you are not throwing your money away. Take her shooting and let her see how much you enjoy it. My wife likes to shoot but nowhere nearly as much as I do, at least she now understands MY love for it. With that understanding the "investment angle" is not much of an issue just a side benefit!
I realize that you were joking in your original post. Good luck!

How many GoldenRods did you have to install to turn your safe into an effective incubator?

Investment angle?

Darned few guns are good investments. (It happens, but its more luck, than smart buying on the part of the collector.)

When you figure in inflation (and how the value of the dollar declines and buys less with each year), even some of the fine WWII Collectible Lugers aren't a great investment, compared to an aggressive mutual fund.

A SIG or Colt you paid $600 for in 1990 would have to sell for $940, today, to just stay even in what the money would buy.

If you've got some guns you bought many years ago, and remember the purchase prices, use the inflation calculator, here http://www.westegg.com/inflation/infl.cgi to see what they're really worth. It'll scare you.

That's a pretty little pup!

When she does I just remind her that if I **** the bed, all of that stuff is hers. Then I ask " what do you have for me?"

Hahahaha! Good point.

Very astute. This is why I refuse to buy guns as investments. I buy them to shoot them.

Walt, when I said "investment" I didn't mean that I make money on them...... I was referring to the fact that I can use and enjoy them and they are still worth something when/if I decide to trade/sell them. I'll bet that my 10 year old Browning sporting clays gun will bring close to it's original price in the used market; that's after thousands of rounds and many hours of enjoyment! Inflation? You're right $1250 will not get me a new one........ I was referring to how items like a 10 year old truck, a 6 month old computer, a 30 second old piece of jewelry, ect, retain their original value compared to guns.
I'm just trying to clarify my original post. No offence taken or intended! Shell Shucker

if she isn't a gun person herself, i bet as long as you only have one out at a time she wouldn't even notice they are 2 guns. not that i'm suggesting being dishonest with your fiancee. Sweet guns by the way.

Your argument, then is that handguns are probably one of the least expensive hobbies -- giving you more bang for your buck (pun intended). I agree. It sure beats golf.

(Although the price of a used HONDA or TOYOTA, in good condition, will scare the crap out of you, if you're buying.)

ya know. I been thinkin about yer situation...
I would promptly purchase about 2 or three more pistols if I were you, just something cheap like a Hi Point..lol then when she finds out about yer new guns.. you could score some "good compromise" points by agreeing to sell a couple of them (hi points). and at the same time, the keeper might just go entirely un-noticed.. (deviant smileyface goes here)

nah, nevermind.. her initial explosion would prolly be lighter if she just finds one new girl in the house..lol

I agree, the Ed Browns are the finest 1911's you can buy. I don't like markings all over the place and Ed's idea of tasteful mods (like the scales) are something I totally dig. Also, every major gunsmith out here uses Ed Brown parts, either in part or in whole for their work... which speaks volumes about his work and parts.

For custom/semi-custom 1911's EB is the only way to fly for me.

Some free advice, I have been married 22yrs and I always went by one rule. (It's awhole lot eaiser to get forgivness then permission) Just keep that in mind. Nice looking guns by the way.
