Your chosen 'MinuteMan' rifle....

In your case, Shung, I expect it'll be the SIG 550.

Is the can opener on your Swiss Army Knife really intended for opening your disaster ammo can?

Yes of course ! :)

unfortunately, they removed the corckscrew on our service army knive, so we have to get more inventive for opening whine bottles :)

You know what, about the SiG550, it's damn heavy..

carry it for 1 day, and you will love your M4 than !!! That is why I love my M4 actually.. And it's also too long and heavy for CQB !

beside that, the cleaning is much more simple on the M4... Cleaning a SiG550 is a pain ! (gaz tube, valve etc..) I used to like it at 1st, but now I hate it.. right after my 1st 50 km march..

ps: me at recruit school (our "boot camp") !

Dont worry. Some have fingers on the triggers, but it is on purpose. weapon were "neutralized" prior to a combat exercize, and that is why you see a white rubber band over the magazines. That was the time I learned about the SiG550 weight. right after my 1st 50km march..

I plum forgot my 870 "boom stick"!

Think "head shoot" as the opposition may well be wearing body armor...

Of course thumping 'em with a 12g will still put 'em out of action for a bit....

I do enjoy seeing your posts from Switzerland. (Also other's posts from Sweden, Norway, Britain, Russia et al.)

So which one is you? The handsome one, no doubt. Looks like they let you hike in the Flatlands, anyway. As I recall from my own visit, you also have some hilly sections there.

Regarding the weight of your SIG 550, I suppose your apocalyptic quandry is not unlike my own:

"I guess I'll grab a Garand, since I've got all those bandoleers. Hurts my thumb loading those AR mags. Why didn't I ever get that LULA?

"Thing is, the M1 is just so dang heavy, though.

"Oh, forget it. I'll just crawl in bed and pull the covers over my head.

"With the Shotty, of course. Or maybe the AR? "

If it's after December, my sidefolding AK that's in the build process. If it's before, my 870 with slugs and buckshot available.

Regardless of time, XD9 4" with 6 mags, and my razor sharp Ka-bar.

My gf would be my Marlin 60 (her favorite, and she's a helluva shot with it) and her two Ruger P-89's with 10 mags, and my Glock knife.

I'd go to my saiga 12 conversion w/ a few AGP mags ranging from 000 to 15 oz slugs. Even in a town of 250, I'd still be worried about over penetration.

Realistically. I'd focus more energy on:
1. Having an actual plan
2. Possessing enough cash on hand.
3. Access to clean water. In my case, a purifier in my 5th wheel.
4. Working w/ my neighbors to protect our collective family members and possessions.

I'm more worried that the we will see a great erosion of our nation's financial strength and revert to a weak, isolated nation like we were before WWI.

I have a nice tool box, But if I could have my holy grail, It would be the Bm-59alpine, with 12 mags for a base load, AK, Russian SKS, Fal, G3, Fr-8 I always hit what I aim at with these.

my red rider bb gun,no but seriously i don't own a firearm yet ,but if the apocalypse happens there will be plenty lying around.

From what I have, my CZ 550 in 6.5 x 55 Swede, with 40 rounds of ammo, with the plan of keeping light and shooting long range and footing it.

Once I buy/build a AR-15 and or AK style rifle, it might change :)

An AK is my minuteman rifle for the time being. Unfortunately, my extreme lack of stock refinishing abilities and fashion sense has made it look more like a Smurf assault rifle than something that would be used in a Red Dawn scenario, but I like it anyhow.

Eh, whichever one is handy. I have enough ammo for all of them. I believe it's important to have an assortment because if it really is disaster time, eventually you're going to have to scrounge for spare parts, ammo, and reloading components. Better have an assortment of rifles so that you have a better chance of finding parts and ammo that will fit one of your rifles.

A major gun manufacturer, dedicated to the cause of liberty, might, possibly, one day come out with a weapon that seems like a bolt action on the surface, and is a bolt action, and thus passes muster as a "sporting weapon" to would-be tyrants, but actually is a modular system, capable of being easily converted to semi- or even fully-automatic. This would need to be a new production gun, and would preferably be sold at artificially low price to ensure distribution, and one kit per every gun produced would be kept in a private armory, ready for distribution to the people during a crisis...
Nolo, ever heard of the Pedersen device?

When you invoke the "minuteman" idea.....you figure we would be fighting in support/defense of the nation and with it's support.

That said, I would go with the AR15.....figuring that we would potentially be getting resupply via the government. Same ammo and parts as big army...easier to stay in the fight.

But what if you get stuck behind enemy lines? That was my rationale for buying the SKS and the two AKs. If not behind enemy lines, I have the two M1As and the two ARs that can be supported by the government, and the M1 Garand and the M1 Carbine that can be supported by the CMP.

My AR15 5.56mm, which is mostly a Bushmaster A3 20"HBAR.

(That's not even half my mags and ammo. They've increased greatly in number since this pic was taken.)

A month ago my pistol would have been one of my 1911's but the CZ-75B 9mm has won me over.

One idea would be to make "Shooting Clubs" with a rifle based off the AR-18 (Take the old AR-18, which could be built inexpensively with Stamped Steel parts and welds, add AR-15 mag support with a flat top, if built in numbers one could make it for ~$400 or less (IMO)) with large stocks of 5.56mm ammo, Which would provide a core for any type of self defense units. ;)
