I live for historic and military weapons. I have a list a mile long of Mil Surplus guns I would like to buy. If you could have one military rifle and one pistol from any army from any time what would they be? I would have to pick... a Mauser K98 and the Colt M1908 .380 pistols that Generals got, just for some variety.

Are we including Class III? Are we going into near modern military arms?

    I'll play it both ways:

    Standard non-Class III:

    1903A4 Springfield
    Luger

    or
    M1D Garand
    1911A1

    or

    Dragunov (not copy)
    P38

Class III: (and subsituting Sub-gun for pistol at will)

    M14
    MP5

    or

    Galil Sniper
    Uzi

    or

    BAR
    Thompson

    Just a few thoughts.

im not great at these games, but i'd want a beretta m9 that our guys carry now. something about the look of those guns always appealed to me. i think it was watching lethal weapon as a kid.

as for the rifle? a nice ol' cetme with wood furniture. neither is really unique, but the looks of those weapons appeals very strongly to me.

While not an issue weapon they were used in the revolution and there ain't many things much pretty'r than a flint lock long rifle set in a tiger maple stock ! I'm with you on this one.

But for the sake of pure military issue I'll take a 1903 A4 sniper rifle and perhaps a calvary Colt.

I would like to own every small arm from WWII. While modern weapons are great, I really like the wepons from that era.

Civil war rifle and pistol (any type, verified to have seen action, from both the north and south), and a revolutionary war rifle and pistol (again, from both sides).
Without being too specific and/or greedy, those would please me the most.

    No, it is not.

Hilaire Belloc's sentiments seem appropriate when creating such a list....

"Whatever happens we have got / The Maxim Gun, and they have not."

I like JWarren's list as well.

    In the pre-1960 category:
    Rifle: Garand
    Submachine gun: Thomson
    Pistol: 1911

    In the present day category:
    Rifle: M40A1
    Submachine gun: MP5
    Pistol: 1911

Items in bold I do not own yet
