I didn't buy a lot of handguns in 2021... mostly just a few revolvers. One of them was easily my favorite handgun purchase of the year. My daughter mentioned that she would probably be wanting to have one of my 38/357 service revolvers in the fairly near future. That was good. Then she mentioned a couple of my favorite handguns, and I became a sad dad, instead of a glad dad. I kept my eyes open and eventually found a pretty good deal on this nice clean LE turn-in S&W Model 64 in 38 special. The trigger is extremely good. My daughter is a tall, strong young lady with large strong hands, so I put a pair of wooden target grips on it for her. She likes the trigger and grips a lot. She shoots it well and comfortably. I'll be sure to give it a little exercise every now and then until she claims it. It's the nicest handgun I bought all year, and it also has a sort of sentimental value... or maybe a pre-sentimental value? What's your favorite handgun that you got in 2021, and why? If there's no picture, it didn't happen. Smith and Wesson Model 64-5 38 special by Tallball posted Jun 3, 2021 at 2:23 PM
I am a fan of 1911's and picked up my third last year. Of the three my favorite. 9mm Dan Wesson Vigil Commander.
My only handgun purchased in 2021, I do like it. Though .45 bullets are more costly and large pistol primers are hard to come by.
Huh, just realized I didn't buy very many handguns this year- mostly ARs and .22 rifles. This one is pretty special, though. 1940 H&R USRA model single-shot.
I only bought two guns in 2021 and both were the H&R Young America, one in .22 and another in .32. I'll say so far I prefer the .22 because with the firing pin on the hammer I'm able to get a workable sight picture and shoot the thing semi accurately. The .32 doesn't have the same firing pin on the hammer and I'm more of less point shooting with each shot.
My best purchase was a Dan Wesson Virgil in 9mm that I gifted the wife with as an early Christmas present. For once I got it right & she loves it. It's the only gun she wants to shoot now & doing very well with it. She shot my 1911's in 45 ACP better than she thought she could so I figured one in 9mm would be the ticket. The combination of having a decent sized grip, excellent trigger, good sights, & minimal recoil combined to make it the perfect handgun for her. Her groups just keep getting smaller & smaller as we practice weekly.
Gentlemen, we have a tie- the Kimber ultra carry 2 45 I got slightly used for $600, and the Keltec P17 I bought new for $225 OTD- the best 22 suppressor host I have ever owned or fired.
I only acquired one pistol last year, a shooter grade 3" M65-5. Been after one for about a decade, only ever seen one other one in person in that whole time. I got a phenomenal deal on this one too.
It's hard to believe that the S&W 29, HK P7, HK4, Mauser 29/70, Sauer & Sohn Trophy, Shadow Systems MR920 Elite, lnib Walther PP in .32 ACP, and a very nice SIG P49 had to take a backseat for a fun plinker. I was sweating over the forms this morning to get the tax stamp for the MKE AP5 to install an A3 stock next. It's fun to shoot just with the sling, too.
Well, I only shoot relatively mild reloads with it. Despite the looks, model 29-3 is not generally considered super durable. For me it is more like a fascinating collector piece than a serious silhouette tool. If I want to launch something that sets a barn on fire, I take my rough, tough Ruger SBH.
Probably my favorite this year. M64. The LGS told me it belonged to a suburban police chief not too far from here, but that has not been verified.
