First I bought a Romanian SKS and a Savage 64 in .22 at the same time. The first handgun I bought was a Ruger MKII so I could learn how to shoot a pistol better and on the cheap.

I had shot a few guns before that. Boy Scouts and Safety training mostly. Not to mention BB and pellet guns before that.

A winchester break 16-gauge. I'm not even sure of the model #. I was way too young to shoot it when I got it, somewhere around six or seven. It's a family hand me down, and it'll eventually go to another kid in the family. Still shoots good.

In 1972 I was stationed at Aberdeen Proving Grounds MD for Officer's Advance Course. About everyone on my floor of the BOQ's went out and bought a gun. i got a Stainless Smith &Wesson M-69. Put a Taylor T grimp and a stag grip on her. Also have a S&W sholder holster. taht gun wen every where with me.

My first gun purchase was a clone of the S&W 32-20 made in spain. I sold it because I could not find a gunsmith to work on it .

the first gun i bought myself was a Mosin Nagant M44 Carbine and how i learned to shoot it was how i learned to shoot all my guns buy some ammo go out in the backyard and target practise on some old pine stumps i got back there now if you wanna know how i got into firearms and my gun safety and everything i learned when i was five my grandfather aught me

First Firearm

Hi there. That's a really good question!

Have you seen any trends?

-my first gun was a Sig-Sauer P6/225. Wonderful handgun and will never get rid of it I don't think.

Chris

I grew up with lots of different "long" guns and hand guns but the first gun I purchased with my own money was a standard 870 express when I was 12. First handgun at 21, a Glock 21. :)

Remington 870 Wingmaster - 12ga, still have it, always will. Looking for a matching 20 too.

I learned to shoot safely from my Dad and Gramps years before I had my own gun.

Actually grew up not in an anti-gun household, it just wasn't ever brought up or wondered about. Enlisted in USMC and the worn and dirty used M16, I slept with ate with, hated, and eventually grew to love and became extemely protective and proud of turn me onto guns. That's when I realized I loved what I never really knew or had! :)

Ruger Bearcat, when I was about 12. I've still got it, still take it to the range from time to time, and still enjoy shooting it from time to time. It's a great first-gun; I continue to highly recommend it.

My first gun was a 10/22 ( this should be every kids first gun ) I got it when I was 12 and I loaded magazines until my thumbs were blistered .

I learned to shoot at a friends house ( Jim Blackard ) whom had a private range on his ranch . I was very careful to follow all gun safety rules in fear of having my shooting day cut short .

Daisy lever BB gun for my 6th B-Day ................ The reason I don't think I'll ever be completely satisfied until I finally acquire a lever action rifle now !

The things little kids learn ;) It sticks

My first was a Ruger standard for my 11th B-day cause dad was unemployed christmas of the yr I turned 10. So since I didnt get my marlin 60 pre-requisit he one upped it. Spent most of my allowance on shells. $.36/ 50 box, at the local hardware store. Still have it, still runnin like a champ.

Not counting daisy, crossman, or marksman bb guns, it was a Marlin 60 for my 15th birthday. For my 18th, I got a Remington 870. Still have them, still use them, will never get rid of them.

First gun I bought was late in life...about 11 years ago at age 23 I bought myself a H&K 45 USP...basically taught myself how to shoot at a local range.

I have made up for lost time a bit since then...I recently bought a Saiga IZ132 7.62x39 16" barrel and immediately converted myself (legally to pistol grip/correct trigger position) then a Saiga IZ109 12 gauge which I also converted myself.

This weekend I took my CWP course and sent my application in today....and I also bought a Spikes Tactical stripped AR lower on Sunday at a local gun show to build up a nice AR to my taste ;)

Christmas when I was 8, a Stevens single shot .22, next year a .410 and a 12 guage when I was 11. Wonder how many .22 rounds in the last 45 years? Thinking more than 30K.

Traditional Rural American Male Gun Family (men love guns, women tolerate the guns/men... lol)... my father had a nice collection of guns... some of which I now own...

No one ever gave me a gun until long after I started my own collection (air rifles aside)... at the same time, guns were provided for me for any legitimate use (hunting, plinking, predator/varmint control)...

The first gun I owned I bought myself, well after moving away from home.... a Remington 870 Express Magnum (the cheapest reliable 12 ga I could find @ the time)... purchased on the guise that I could use it for Grouse hunting, but in reality it was for personal protection after I moved to the big city (the really really bad part of the big city)....

I witnessed one attempted murder (gunshot to the head), found a body from another murder (gunshot to the head), and was asked to testify against 3 gangbangers in a murder trial (which I agreed to do)... These gangs had taken to intimidating and even killing cops at the time.... these same gangs were fighting for turf in my neighborhood, and I was legitimately concerned...

A permit to carry and a 686 soon followed... I have been 'refining' my collection since then... lol... refine = buying more

Marlin-Glenfield Model 60 .22 semi-auto rifle. Bought just after 18th birthday.
