after picking up the wifes marlin mod 70 22. I noticed a Ruger 77 Compact in 243.

I picked it up on layaway for $500 with tax and it was nice and light even with a scope. wasnt to long that i felt like was a quick draw. I have been looking for a deer rifle that was lite and nimble, but not a youth. Youth didnt fit me right. im 6 foot 2 in and the Ruger felt good.

I do relize i will loose velocity with the shorter barrel. but my mag range to shoot a deer is realy 150 to 200 yrds. and i didnt need anything over kill like a 30 06.

any ways my question. Has anyone had experiance with this rifle? i did a search on thr and google most from thr are in archive and seem neutral.

also any thoughts on bullet and grain i should use for my range?

I've got a .308, .260, and a 6.8spc compact that all shoot great. Sorry no .243

What I have found with all 3 rifles is as the barrel heats up, the POI will change. So when you go to sight it in, shoot for 3 shot groups and let cool for 5 min. I wouldn't sell or trade any of them.

I have one in .243 Stainless Laminated Stock. I don't shoot much off a bench but have killed a few coyotes and a Whitetail with it. Plenty accurate for hunting and very nice to carry. I really like mine, fits me pretty well and my kids can shoot it also.
