Auction on ebay for a 870p walnut stock set in 99.9% condition, see here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270437475860&ssPageName=STRK:MESOX:IT

Auction end time: 8/05/09

I received a email from high bidder on 08/18/09:

"Hi I bought a shotgun fore grip and stock from you
for my 870 express, and after installing both
items my shotgun gained better weight and reduced
recoil, but it created a problem. The fore grip
isn't made to the same thickness and it caused
jamming and problems. After putting the stock one
back on the problem went away. And the rear stock
cracked and broke off pieces of wood at the end
that connects to the receiver."

Before I reply back, I would like your thoughts first. Keep in mind my feedback score and how many 870p stocks that has been sold.
Thanks!

I'm thinking the guy's all-thumbs and misaligned the forend when he put it on and caused the jamming. I also think he busted the stock by putting it on misaligned.

FWIW, there are numerous stories going around now about scammer-buyers who try to bully sellers, partly because ebay has tilted the scales so far in favor of the buyers when it comes to being able to leave feedback. The scammers have become aware that sellers live and die by their feedback and will go to great lengths to protect a good rating.

Wish I had seen that item It would have looked nice on my old Wingmaster. I also wouldn't have d!(ked it up trying to install it.:D

Most likely it's one of the above listed scenarios involving him being the "dummy" At best Remington could have made a bad set of furniture. Neither is your fault and one negative feedback isn't going to hurt you that bad with your current numbers. Whats your perfect score worth to you?

Do you have the auction pictures showing the condition of the stock that was sent? Most likely, the end user did not install them correctly, but that is not to say that a defective set of wood made it out of the factory.

I purchased an 870P stock set from you off the for sale board here a couple years ago. I was very pleased with the wood you sent and the way it was packaged.

The plain walnut used on current Police guns is beautiful IMHO.

Is there a 'LC' (light contour) version of the 870, by any chance? That's the only thing I can think of other than misalignment of the forearm that could cause problems there.

As to the stock, I'd bet he didn't use a stock bearing plate as should be the case with any wooden stock on an 870, and even with some synthetics.

JMHO,

lpl

Have him take some pictures of where the damage is. I'm pretty sure I purchased one of your stock sets and was impressed with the quality and packaging, as well.

I have an 870 where the stock cracked but it took ten years for the crack to show up under magnum loads. I also have three police takeoff stocks twenty years old or better that I am refinishing. I do not see one breaking down, the quality of the wood is too high.

It sounds like it's his fault for installing it incorrectly. First thing I would do is make him take a lot of pictures and have him send you a detailed description of how he installed it. Even if he does submit a bad review most people won't care that you have 293+ and 1- review. Is there any way to dispute negative reviews on ebay if you can prove that the buyer did something wrong and not the seller?

He probably got the fore end crooked and didn't put the stock bearing plate in front of the buttstock. The synthetics don't use a plate.

I'm betting this is what happened. I'd ask him if he had a synthetic and if he used the stock bearing plate. You aren't responsible for his improper installation, if that does end up being the cause.
