What is your favorite pet load for 9mm plated bullets ?

I don't have a pet 9mm load... that suggests I like to load 9mm, which I don't. I've got a few that work, however.

5.6grn Unique under any 124grn jacketed or plated bullet.

Recently, I've been fooling with W244 as a better metering powder for 9mm...

4.5grn W244 with a RMR 124grn PRN gave very good accuracy and reasonable velocity, if not quite up there with factory.

I also use TiteGroup, which works pretty well with the lighter bullets in 9mm...

4.2grn TiteGroup and the 124grn RMR gave me factory velocity, but meh accuracy.

 

My favorite 9x19 loads.

115 RN or 124 RN plated bullets with True Blue. I use a charge a few tenths of grain below Western Powders max load for each bullet weight.

As always, work up your load for your handgun.

 

4.0 grn Red Dot under a 115 grn copper plated RN

 

5.1 grn AA#2 with 115 grn rn.

Funny how times change, when I tried different loads it worked the best but it was a middle of the road load. Look in the books today and it is a hot load. I ran up to 5.9 grn originally and the next place it was going to work out as accurate load was 6.1 but I thought I started to see pressure signs (primers maybe started to flatten) at 5.9 so I didn't want to push it and just stuck with 5.1 grn. I know why, just funny how much sometimes.

 

5.5gr. Unique under Berry's or X-Treme 124gr., either the RN or the HP, doesn't matter. Works in all of my 9mm's.
For the shorter barrel Stars, I like 3.7 gr. of IMR Hi-Skor 700x, same bullet choices. It's a very light load - just under 900fps - but it cycles both the BM and M43 reliably.

 

Another True Blue user here. All my plated 115gr bullets get 5.7gr of True Blue at 1.150 oal. Works great in all of my 9mm's. Actually just made up some the other night.

 

I'll have to try that. I'm new to the Ramshot powders. Started with Competition last month on recommendations from the forum and picked up a pound of True Blue at the indoor range just to experiment with. i've heard it's good for .32S&W Long target loads. Like Bullseye but a little less fussy.

 

I load on a 550 so nice case fill is important. A double charge of 5.7gr will put the powder at the very top of the case. Real easy to spot a double charge. Meters like water, perfect every time. Also one of the cleanest powders, I've ever used. If you load 45acp or even 357 magnum, give it a try in those calibers also. I think you'll like it.

I agree, I don't like to load 9mm either. It's my least favorite caliber to reload.

 

Compared to something fun and easy to load like .45ACP, .45 Colt, or .41MAG... handling those little cases and bullets just isn't as much fun. Further... loading full-house loads can get tricky, with things like seating depth, and different bullets having a marked effect on the testy little thing.

Rebuild some little 2 cycle carburetors, and then those cases seem huge!

I usually load jacketed 124s up to 5.8gr of Unique. When I finally got some Barry’s plated 124s, I ran some tests and found that 5.6 of Unique produced the same effect. so it was really close

 

Yup, mostly because the components are tiny, but also I find resizing the tapered case a noticeably less smooth process than straight-walled.

I am using Win AutoComp with very good results and accuracy. It's fun to watch groups and numbers change when working up a load. I use Speer, Berrys and XTreme 115-124. This is with a 4.6in barrel and burnout is just before muzzle passage. With my 3.54in barrel, burnout is just after muzzle passage. Case fill is such that a double charge would overflow, hard to miss unless you try.

Winchester data proved conservative for 115gr bullets at 5.6gr max. When I bumped the 115gr bullet up to 5.8gr both pistols showed much better accuracy and SD dropped significantly to 19.2 I actually found the data for 124gr good, and I dropped 0.1gr to 5,3gr for those. These are now my set it and forget it loads for 9MM.

 

I load mostly 124 gr RMR TCFP for a Sig Legion 938 and BE-86 has worked well for me. For a XDS 9x19 with a Extreme plated 135gr FP Accurate #7 closely mimics the Hornady Critical Duty 135gr. Both of these powders will work as other powders like Accurate #5 and HS-6. Plenty of folks find favor with faster powders, I just haven't tried them yet, for now I'm using 124gr and up for 9x19.

 

If you have a 45acp, try that with competition. Makes a very nice light accurate target load.
Ramshot silhouette is another great powder.
