Yugo M24/47 Mauser

Now I'm looking at an M24/47, good to very good condition, straight bolt. Crest is usually scrubbed off with most having factory code Preduzece 44 or some variation thereof stamped on receiver, as well as other proofs and acceptance marks on stock and metal parts.

It would be about $519 shipped direct to me. Is that a good price for one of these?

That's a little steep, not crazy, but if you really want it, beats scouring auctions and gunshows. I'm assuming from the description it is a seller of multiple rifles of this type. Do you care to say which one? Some have bad reps, some good.

A local auction just sold 2 with crest under $500 that were pretty pristine rifles. Times are crazy though.

Did some deep digging, and it seems JG is the only retail source at the moment. Reading the description, it sounds like a decent gun. I've never ordered anything from them described as "small cracks" so don't know where to go with that. If you really want an 8mm G98 "style" rifle with straight bolt, this is probably the least expensive option unless you find a Turk M38. If you can live with the price and don't have time to cruise the auction circuit, probably not a bad deal shipped/transferred in todays times.

 

I have been looking around for a few days and yes, they are the only one to have them in stock unless I go to the auction boards which I don't really trust all that much.
I went ahead and ordered one.
I was looking at SMLEs until I saw the prices!!!! I bought a #4 Mk1 back when they first started importing them for around $70.......... I sold it for around $400 in the early 2000s, shoulda hung on to it a little longer.

 

Thought about it and figured get it now before they go up in price. And the cost ended up being $505.

 

I'd go for it if it's a model that appeals to you. The bottom end of the milsurp Mauser market has been getting more expensive, so $500 isn't out of line anymore.

 

A bit high but if it's nice and has a good bore go for it, I like the 24/47 much more then the m48s there always compared with. One thing to look for and I'm surprised there going so cheap are 1909 Argentine guns,

 

Even the 1909s have gone way up in price.

 

Not to enable poor financial decisions (or good ones?). Check out Simpsons ltd. They have a large crop of various Swiss rifles recently at reasonable prices. You may never see these again!

 

I think I'm good for now, I want to keep some money in my savings..........

 

24/47s are my favorite of the Mausers. Lots of them have like-new barrels too.

I'd draw the line at $525 for a super-nice one though.

 

I'm glad to hear they have gone up that much. I bought mine for $200.00 about 5 years ago as a unissued refurb with the cosmoline and other goodies.
They are great shooting Mausers

 

I paid $450 for mine last year. Very clean rifle, can't knock on an 80 year old Mauser for under $500

 

Dang had no idea Mausers had gone that high. I bought a gunsmith special mauser in 2003 from Century for $35.00 If Inrecall ot was a 24/47 . Fixed the broken handguard and bought a set of lock screws for the floorplate and made it complete. Sold it down the road for $150

 

You should see what K98s are going for, even SMLEs are typically over a grand for a VG one.

 

Be prepared for the fact that it will most likely shoot fairly high- like 6" or more at 100 yards. I believe that Brownells still sells front sight blanks, so you can make up a new front sight easily, if necessary.

 

I had a 24/47 for a while… I picked out at AIM surplus when they had them, along with a case of Romanian light ball steel case ammo.
While I like Mausers in general, I never really cared for that 24/47. I ended up trading it away.
Having that case of ammo, I looked for an 8mm replacement, and ended up with a Yugo kar98k refurb… Basically, a like new kar98k. I will probably be looking to sell that rifle and the ammo one of these days.
