Yugo M70 need a pistol premit in MI?

I have a Yugo M70 on back order from AIM and i was in my local gun store who has done tranfers for in the past. I asked if they had got any of the Yugo's in or had seen them. They said no, and then mentioned that probally will not need since you need a pistol premit for it. I then asked why. They told me due to the lengh with the stock folded, In Mi you need a pistol purchue premit for them.

Has anyone in MI bought one of these and needed to get a premit?

BTW for those not in Michigan to buy a pistol you need to either have a CCW or go down to the local police and get a pistol purchue premit.

I checked the online Mi firearms laws and i guess anything that has a folded lengh of 30 inches and can be fired is classfied as a pistol.

+1 on the less than 30 inches if it can be fired while folded in MI. This is thanks to the interpretayion of law by an extremist Attorney General, Frank Kelly. Even tho he is no longer in office, his interpretation still has the force of law, unless overturned by a subsequent attorney general.

Well at least it is changing, the current Attorneys General has made it legal to own Class III as long as you have it legally by NFA rules. But as we (Michiganders) all know... " if you don't like the weather wait five minutes, it'l change." ...same for the political climate too.

I'm glad I moved to Ohio where I don't have to ask for a police permit to purchase a handgun. I can buy and sell to law abiding citizens without this hassle.

I remember how in Michigan I had to find time from work to go to the police station to ask for a handgun permit which was good for ten days. Then I had to find time to bring the pistol in for a 'safety check' Michiganian for registration. Ironically the safety check card they give you states that this does not guarantee that the pistol is safe and you should have a gunsmith check it if you're not sure.

This law was enacted because the KKK wanted to make sure blacks would have a hard time getting handguns to defend themselves. This law didn't stop Detroit from being the murder capital of the US for many years.

I agree that the purchuse premit is a big pain in the @#$! and it needs to go away.

However Michigan is better then some other states. At least we have a CCW now and with a CCW no premit needed.

Before i got on this board i had no idea that this was a MI thing and all states didn't do this.

I mean if to get A M70 i need to bring into the Police staton. Don't freak out when i open up the case and there is a rifle.

I am the Clerks will have no idea about it and will call to ask.
