maybe my Google Fu is just weak, but i can't seem to find this, so i again bow to the knowledge of this forum and it's collective wisdom.

i have a friend...really...who has a desire to go hunting the large bruin of the North.

to that end, has had a custom rifle built on an Enfield action...strength and controlled feed...in .375 H&H. he has been practicing with it, apparently he can afford it, smoothly working the action and has asked me to help him get it zeroed.

the last time i helped a friend with this, we were looking at it as a thin skinned game rifle and zeroed it for 200 yards, figuring it to hit a couple of inches high at 100 yards...so he could use it for everything besides the Big 5.

i was wondering...have never hunted BEAR...would you still zero for 200 yards or something closer. experience or a link to a reference would be very helpful.

thanks

Sight it in as you would any other rifle. 3 to 3.5 inches high at 100yds. The last brown bear I was in on was shot at about 40 yards. (by my old man)

My 375 is sighted in for 200. The trajectory is similar to my 308, so I sighted in for the same distance just for the familiarity aspect. Although shooting brownies at 200+ is the exception, if your "friend" has the possibility of shooting other game while on the trip the 200 yard zero might be an advantage. I shot my griz at about 100yards, but took several wolves and caribou at 350+.
