I think carrying a Zippo (or some type of lighter/matches) in your pocket, at all times, is a good idea.

You never know when you might need to light something or start a fire.

bensdad, right you are! Don't wanna be left out without a light.

And thanks for the link glistam, I might get one of those Peanut Lighters.

I have a Zippo, I have carried around for years.

I smoke a Lucky Strike or a cigar only every now and then. Most of the time I am ask by family members to light birthday candles. They all know always carry a lighter. I'm the only guy who does.

But I have to refill the Zippo every 7 to 10 days due to evaporation.

Not gonna get rid of my Zippo, but I might get the one you suggested.

Thanks

I used to carry a Zippo as well, even though I don't smoke. "Be prepared" you know. Among other things I found that on cold days if I light it for a few seconds, then put it out and close it, it gets hot so I'd use it as a short-acting handwarmer. Also I'd heat paperclips to act as sort of soldering-iron for plastics.

Another trick I remember to delay the evaporation was to take a piece of vinyl, like the semi-sticky kind that comes stuck to your electronics's screens, and wrap it around the seam. Worked pretty well.

The O-Ring and lid preventing evaporation of the fluid is excellent...good design...I will get one.

I also have carried a Zippo off and on since the early '60s...their fluid does evaporate out in a week or so usually...and fun if you over-fill and pocket it in haste or distraction, and then soon feel that warm chemical burn experience on your thigh...Lol...

Love my old well worn Zippo, but one of these as a back-up ( 'BUL'?) in the Car's Glove Compartment would be nice for sure.

im a smoker and as such have used lighters for going on 15 years now

a zippo is a great novelty for a while but youll soon realize that in a survival situation a $1.00 BIC is your best friend

so what should i do?

i tend to have both alot of the time
i love the zippo for lighting up a smoke or stogie (i know i should use wooden matches)
but for the reliable needs i have a bic as a backup and you can get alot more lights from a bic than a fully filled zippo thanks to that evaporation deal

also ive never found any reliable refillable lighters that are as cost affective as a 5 pack of bics which as long as not played with can last a LOOOOOOOOOONG time
