While I already have a .44 and 45-70 that are more than enough for deer here in Ohio I am intrigued by the .400 Legend. I however am not excited about either the Savage or Mossberg rifles I have seen available. Has anyone gotten a chance at other rifles available in this caliber preferable bolt action variety with wooden stock. I know Winchester is supposedly making one but it's very slow to come to market. I will build up a brass supply and reload for it so if it fizzles it's not a major concern.

One thing for sure is the 350 Legend is here to stay. The 400 Legend I don't see it's staying power, honestly. Like you already said get a supply of brass and bullets just in case.

You've got a 44mag and 45-70 the 400L is somewhere in between. You would gain having a rimless cartridge and some bullet BC because of being more pointed like a rifle bullet. If it's something you like and can get one, please do and let us know about, I actually haven't seen too much on it.

If I still deer hunted much it would be interesting. Main reason I even noticed it is, Vance Outdoors had a lefty Savage in stock last time I was in. Actually in a modern gun with good hand loads 45-70 will kill anything in North America. I've taken deer out to 225 yards with mine

Vance's is a name I've not heard in a long time.

I bought my first gun there, a police trade in S&W 469 for about $200 a long time ago.

They just opened one fairly close to me . Seems like a decent store. Are they the same Vance that made/sold cast bullets years ago? I picked up a Savage rascal on sale to play with

Looks like they have five stores total now. I used to go to their original storefront on Cleveland Ave (rough part of town) pretty frequently.

Had a membership at their range in Groveport at one time too when it was new.

Always liked those stores. Bought alot of guns through them.
