I recently picked up a very nice 1873 Springfield. It has the buffington rear sight, and when I tighten the locking screw down the slide still moves freely.

Has anyone else had this issue? I dont know if adding a few threads to the screw so it gets pulled in tighter would be the fix or if i need a new screw or a whole new sight?

Either way, I am not going to attempt the repair myself, and will bring it to a gunsmith, unless it is something simple like changing out the screw.

Thank you. I ordered that screw to try. Is this a common problem on these guns?
I have no idea, but screws and their threaded sockets do wear out. I simply decided to look up the firearm and its parts. As I said, google can be helpful.
