Maverick 88 the real deal

Bought a new 88 security three months ago after watching Mixup98 on YouTube. Got the 4 shot saddle as well. He was right. For $200 this is a steal and a deal. This is by the bed ready to go if things go bump in the night .
Just all out super shotgun. It's stoked with #1 buck
Just bought my son the 88 security the other day. Haven't given to him yet. Without even shooting it yet, I love it. It feels good in my hands, the action seems smooth and sturdy . I may just forget to give it to him.

I've been debating on one of these for years. Always a toss up between that and a 500 or spend more and get the 590. Since they are limited in mods, it's kind of a turn off compared to the bigger brothers.

I think they are an excellent gun for the bedside...inexpensive, and they work fine.

So found some parts to swap on and now it's becoming very tempting

One of the best upgrades I did to my Mav88 was go from the Opsol mini adapter to the Defender tactical adapter. Unlike the Opsol, you can run a mix of shells with the Defender Tactical one without removing it. It slides into the grooved recesses in the receiver so it doesn't go anywhere. I have tried to choke up this adapter and haven't been able to.

+1

I also like the idea of Maverick 88 plus DT adapter.

However, I have a problem of up-selling myself and went with the 590S. The Mossberg 590S takes mini-shells from the factory, has interchangeable chokes, ghost ring sights, and accepts a bayonet.

Is it better than the Maverick 88 - not really but it has some more features that I like.

My 88 has been a much better gun than my 590 at half the price------the 590 will be trading fodder once I get some time off-----the 88 ain't goin nowhere

I've replaced the mag spring twice--once with a Wolfe spring and once with factory replacement and the gun has never fed all the shells without 2 or 3 dropping out of the bottom (9 shot) including the original factory spring---the gun is simply a POS and not worth keeping.

Never a problem with the 88---8 shot---and sits next to the bed and the 590 sits in the closet waiting to be traded off.

I've been eyeing a Browning Citori 725 Field and the 590 will be thrown in with a few other cheapies to bring the price down,

I picked up my 7 shot Mav 88 ~15 years ago. Zero issues. When each of my son's moved out, I bought each of them a 5 shot Mav 88. My youngest is out deer hunting with his as I write this post. They are just superb inexpensive shotguns.

Wouldn’t the cartridge stop or interrupter be the issue?

I've owned an 88, and shot several more owned by friends. It's definitely a sleeper in the shotgun world. The one I had didn't offer me any trouble, just had the trading itch one day.

What's the difference between the 88 and 500? I understand its the safety placement and the action bars pinned to the forearm. Any other differences?

I think the 88 is assembled in Mexico too. I have one as well. I like to keep my defensive shotguns very simple. Plain bead, I do add a light and a butt stock slip on shell holder. I load them with high quality ammo though. Hornady varmint #4 buckshot with that versa tight wad. sometimes simple is better in my world.
