230 gr. and 165 gr. Hydra-Shoks, whichever is available. Hydra-Shok is the brand the local police use. I think one of the gunwriters, Ayoob maybe, has suggested that this might be a good strategy to avoid accusations of brutal overkill from an excited prosecutor... in the unlikely event you have to shoot an assailant.
If you'd asked this question a month ago, I'd have said Golden Sabers. They've been getting hard to find around here, so I ran a few boxes of HydraShocks through my 1911 and switched to those, 230gr.
Jeff Cooper and Clint Smith have both been quoted numerous times as saying they only carry 230 gr. hardball loads in their carry guns. When asked why, both had the same answer.......reliability.
