Anyone out there with experience swaging minnies?I'm about ready to give it a try.Sure could use some information.Thanks

I await an answer as I doubt there have been swaged minies since the War of the Rebellion was concluded. I've only seen cast minies in my journey on the dark side (since 1968).
 
no dixie has swaged minnies,i bought a hundred just a few days ago.corbin sells the equipment to make them.i just don't how to do that.
 
Lee Precision makes custom sizing dies up to .575 bullet diameter for $29.

Hey badpenny, thanks for bringing me 150 years up to date! I've only seen cast minies and they often have terrible voids in them. Swaged would be the best.
 
Swage minnies

I bought a bunch from DGW for my Armi Sport 1858 2-band Enfield.

I coated them with Rooster Jacket (available from Track of the Wolf) and let them dry overnight.

For shooting I put a little lube in the base and put an overshot card on top of about 60 grains of FFG Goex. They have shot the best groups of any store bought minnies I have used in this rifle.

I have not done this but I know of an individual that goes be the name of Southron Sr. on the N-SSA web site that has done it. He even does it commercially. I suspect he supplies Dixie.

I understand, but it's one way to custom size cast minnies for a reasonable price.
If each cast and sized minnie was weighed, then any minnies with voids and casting flaws could be culled. :)

LUBE AND SIZING KIT

Fastest and easiest way to lubricate and size cast bullets. Standard 7/8 x 14 threads fit any reloading press. Bullets are pushed through the sizing die nose first, so no special nose punches are needed. Gas checks are automatically seated and crimped in place. dixie has swaged minnies in .577 and .69.i've shot both,they are excellent balls.still think it would be interesting to swage my own
 
Corbin is probably the largest swaging equipment outfits, but it would require a large investment. :)

If they don't have a minnie die set-up already developed, would you still be interested developing them yourself to swag minnies?

they already have it set up.i was curious whether anyone had experience with swaging.i've been casting for many years,but this would be a new application.
 
Could you share any information about what Corbin offers for swaging minnies so that more folks will know about it?
What's the initial cost? :)
