Just picked up a Marlin 880ss .22LR for a good price. Came with a factory 7-round mag, an aftermarket 15-round mag, and a decent soft case. I'm not new to rifles, but this is my first purchase and I'm not yet wise in their ways as I am with pistols...
I haven't fired it yet but I already have questions:
1. Is there a wooden stock available for this rifle? The black synthetic stock is of course perfectly serviceable but there's something about a nice wood stock... anyway, either an aftermarket wooden stock, or maybe a wooden stock from another Marlin model?
2. The "magazine guide" has a notch in it at the back. It's made of plastic, and the retaining bump on the mag has eaten a divot into it, no doubt from the previous owner smacking the mag in a little too enthusiastically. The mag will lock in if I'm careful, but I've already ordered a replacement mag guide from Midway. Here's the question though - is there any chance a metal mag guide is available somewhere? Either steel or maybe aluminum?
Any help appreciated.
