Just picked up a Marlin 880ss .22LR for a good price. Came with a factory 7-round mag, an aftermarket 15-round mag, and a decent soft case. I'm not new to rifles, but this is my first purchase and I'm not yet wise in their ways as I am with pistols...

I haven't fired it yet but I already have questions:

1. Is there a wooden stock available for this rifle? The black synthetic stock is of course perfectly serviceable but there's something about a nice wood stock... anyway, either an aftermarket wooden stock, or maybe a wooden stock from another Marlin model?

2. The "magazine guide" has a notch in it at the back. It's made of plastic, and the retaining bump on the mag has eaten a divot into it, no doubt from the previous owner smacking the mag in a little too enthusiastically. The mag will lock in if I'm careful, but I've already ordered a replacement mag guide from Midway. Here's the question though - is there any chance a metal mag guide is available somewhere? Either steel or maybe aluminum?

Any help appreciated.

yeah, there is parts and stocks available, stocks from the 783 and 883's will work, either in wood or lam. and mag parts can be had in steel i think from the same rifles, or their are a couple of dudes that make them. check over on the Marlin thread at rimfirecentral.com, they will let you know for sure.

there is a dude over there with a 880, with a lam stock ,and it looks great.
are you sure yours is an 880 ss, or an 880 sq? is it stainless steel?
do you have any pics?

It's stainless. No pics yet. It was sold to me as an 880SS. Mag-fed, not an underbarrel tube. I haven't found much info yet, but is the difference between the SS and SQ simply that the SS is stainless and the SQ isn't?

Do you know where there is an SQ hiding? I will forever regret getting rid of mine.
