Springfield Armory EMP 40 S&W reliability

well i just bought one yesterday, haven't shot it yet. have to send it back to springer for a couple things i noticed inside the slide (that's just my luck lol) but i'll post a range report when i get it back. here's a pic i took:

If they are anything like my 9mm EMP they will be great little guns. I've had no failures of any kind with mine.

Thanks. I was looking at Kimber Ultra Carry recently. When I investigated the Kimber forum I found that they had discontinued their short action 40 S&W due to feeding problems.

I am hopeful that Springfield does not have that kind of problem.

not at all, springer emp40's do not have the same issues that kimber 40's did, because springer built the emp from the ground up around the 9/40 calibers, rather than being a modded 45acp like the kimber.

I rented an EMP 40 yesterday and put about 60 rounds through it. That gun is ridiculously fun to shoot, but I experienced roughly 6 FTF jams. I think this is a result of the way I was holding the gun - the magazine sticks out the bottom a fair amount. I was able to clear them by pulling the slide back, but it was still frustrating nonetheless. Having said that, I do intend to buy one

Congrats to all that just bought one, as my "old" EMP 9mm has gone 5500 nearly flawless rounds (300 round break-in) and is 100% dependable and reliable with 124gr JHP's.

Truth in testimony (from me) has brought 6 new owners into the EMP herd over at the Beretta forum and they "thanked me, prior to buying, and more so, after buying..

1 member/mod over there who asked me questions about my EMP took my word and got the 40cal (which I asked, tell me how she shoots asap) to which he, now, has some 500 "flawless rounds" and "loves the gun", again, with a bigger thank you after buying it and shooting it..

SA' EMP's are just jewels to be had and speaking for my 9mm, it can be shot one handed, weak handed, limp, upside down, sideways, right side up, and never miss a beat..

Very forgiving SAO gun along with at close ranges, under 63ft, are tack drivers, and a pure joy to just point and shoot, as well.

Only one word comes to mind after every post made, they are ~ Keepers ~

Ps.. I might add: when it comes time, and it will, around 3500 rounds, you can do one of 2 things when it comes to replacing the return springs.

1. Just order the one spring only, that you can take off and put on easily and it will do the job or:

2. Order the "complete guide and springs" as one package, as I found out a bit late, lol, that ordering both long and short springs, separate, and finding out that in order to put them both on you have to separate the return guide, literally, but getting it back together is iffy at best and not worth the gamble, hassle, vs just buying it "complete" from SA.. and just slide the whole "captured" guide rod and springs in.. keep it simple.

I'm definitely interested but the last I checked, the street price was ~$1,000 for the 9mm.

I doubt the 40's will be any easier to come by as are the 9mm's as they get sold, for the very most part, rather quickly and hold the 1000 dollar selling price because of that.. But there is a chance, in that, IMHO, 9mm's have such a huge following, especially, now, in SC guns. I think the 40's will be a more wait and see type display gun and that may work for price drop.. may

I doubt that SA will make a 357sig barrel for them but time will tell.
