about getting licensed to own/purchace a supressor. I'm not a whacko(at least I haven't been diagnosed YET!)just an honest law abiding American. I am an NRA certified instructer and CCW licensee so I welcome any background check. First question is-How do I get licensed to do this?

You don't need a license. No such thing.

Each silencer needs a one-time $200 stamp to either build one, or transfer one to you. It's pretty straight forward, and if you'd like to start somewhere cheap, get a .22lr silencer fi

Important info - you need a Form 1 if you'll be making a silencer, or a Form 4 if you'll be buying one from a dealer. Either needs a citizenship certification, and fingerprint cards/photos, etc. Check out the instructions, and if they're not clear, check out www.atf.gov, and search for the NFA forms.

Hope that helps. :)

and around here, we don't think people who want to own silencers are wacko. we think people who DON'T want to own them are wacko.

Go to the ATF website and download the forms you need. http://www.atf.gov/forms/firearms/ Form 4 here; http://www.atf.gov/forms/download/atf-f-5320-4.pdf Form 5330.20; http://www.atf.gov/forms/download/atf-f-5330-20.pdf You will also need finger print cards, order them here and the others if you do not want to print them out. http://www.atf.gov/forms/dcof/ If you download the foms, they have to be printed double sided. If you want to make the silencer yourself, then get the ATF form 1.

If you buy a silencer acoss state lines, then you have to go though a dealer. The dealer can walk you though the process, but it is a good idea to mail in the forms to the ATF youself, and use a personal check not a money order. You will need to get the sheriff's signature on the back of the form, unless you use a trust or Corp. to own it for you.

Check out http://www.subguns.com for forms, legal info and advice on the forums. The forum at SilencerTalk is a good place too.

You do not have to go too far to find one of those wackos. They are right here on THR. http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=415210

Unless you think that someone who says silencers are basically illegal, require a special permit, or that silencers, black rifles and CCW have done more to degrade gun owner support than anything in recent years, is not a wacko. :) They reproduce and they vote. Too bad for the rational gun owners in the USA. It is these jerks that are trying to ruin it for the rest of us.

Remember, suppressors reduce noise pollution. Suppressor owners are kind, considerate, responsible and law-abiding. Good neighbors, too. Your parents would want you to marry someone of such sterling virtues. You hope your kids become suppressor owners.
