surefire "Sonic defenders" for hunting?

So i was looking at surefire's website, and they sell an item called the sonic defender. basically earplugs that supposedly block out loud noise but allow some hearing at normal levels.

does anyone have experience with these? I normally don't wear hearing protection while hunting but if these allow me a reasonable amount of hearing i might pick them up. This year I picked up a .357 revolver that I would like to take deer hunting, but I don't want to go deaf.

I bought some, tried them, and couldnt get them to work. Maybe I was using them wrong, maybe I got a defective pair. I think to get really good protection you have to shell out at least $500-600

I've shot several different weapons systems ranging from 5.56 NATO to the deafening 50 BMG with these in. One of our range days was about 8 hours behind 7.62's and the 50's and I no adverse effects from it.

In a stand, I'd leave one out until right before I took a shot.

You don't have to spend $500+ unless you are getting implants. The other route which I like better is to go with electronic muffs, especially for winter hunts. You get the benefit of hearing protection, better hearing performance, and in winter they help keep your ears warm.

Which electronic muffs have you used hunting? I have a pair of Remingtons that work well on the range, but I'm not sure how they'll work in the field.

I use the EP4's when it's hot outside; muffs make my ears sweat.

With the ports open, you can have conversations at the range, but I doubt you have much luck listening for game with them in. I don't hunt much, but when I do I use these. I slip them in when I have time.
