I read that historically Colt did manufactured 100 61 navies with fully fluted cylinders. Does anyone know who makes them or made them?

Hello friends and neighbors // I have a fully fluted cylinder for my Pietta, 1861 Navy, .36 cal, you might try them.
Uberti made at least two of them, in 1970 and imported by Replica Arms.

Colts also made a short run of 1860s during the first year of production that had full fluted cylinders. And some Dragoons were produced with full fluted cylinders also. It was thought ot be a weight saving feature and on the Dragoon, I can accept that. Unfortunately, it weakened the cylinders of the 44s and they occassionally exploded. Colts did a "recall" and replaced the cylinders with the standard unfluted style.

I bought a fluted cylinder from VTI gunparts and fitted it to one of my 61's. The problem is the timing has to be absolutely perfect, as an early drop forcs the locking bolt to climb the side of the flute to get to the notch, increasing the cocking effort. The bolt has to hit in the lead groove and no later or you can get overtravel. They are pretty, but for match reliability, I use the unfluted cylinders.

That top psitol has a "dragoon" style (1851 probably) trigger guard housing.........
Indeed, and I probably had them for a couple of years prior to noticing it for myself. (We can chalk that up to the ignorance of youth.) I bought them from the Kindigs at the Log Cabin Shop while in my late teens. They shot well and I really liked the iron guard and strap. Makes them very pleasing to the eye, almost sexy. I have often thought of addign a pair of American ivory (smooth stag) grip but have never done it. I guess I like the way they look.
