Which .22LR 'AR'?

I had the S&W M&P 15-22, it shot great and never gave an issue. I did however replace it with a CMMG Quebec. The only flaw I had with the Smith was the polymer design. It in no way hurt the rifle. I just did not like the way it felt. That is why I sold it and went with the CMMG, it is a mil-spec lower, with a dedicated .22 upper with a 1-16 twist, I paid $475 for it. I do however not like the conversions. The Sig always interrested me. I almost bought one that had two barrels. It as just a little cheaper in price than the M&P. I dont think either one are going to be a bad choice, just whichever design you like.

anyone have any insight into these 2 rifles as they compare to S&W or CMMG?

I have shot both, own one. Both are accurate, both have the potential to be expensive. If you have an AR, the M&P is a cheap training alternative. However...

I passed on the M&P. It looks like a toy, feels like a toy, and in my opinion, it is built like a toy. It is polymer head to toe. Makes it light, but not "realistic" to me.
I have an AR, I can train with that with an upper in 22, which makes more sense than dropping the coin for an M&P. But I still found myself in your same boat.

I fell instantly in love with the 522. Aluminum upper, folding stock, AR-like break down, flat top, shoots EVERYTHING without qualms. The trigger is better than the 15-22, heavier overall weight than the 15-22, but I think this helps tracking targets alot. All in all, it is a hair cheaper, built better, looks better, shoots as good, and when you pick it up, you know it means business. The biggest selling factor besides being tank like in construction, was the mags.

Sig doesn't use proprietary, cheap ass mags like Smith does (you know, plasticky with the pull down load assist tabs). Sig went with Black Dog mags. They're so smart!! Not only do they not allow gunk, twigs, debris to find their way into the mag as it is sealed, they are heavy duty and probably THE best mags for .22 out there. Ask anyone.

Both will serve you well. But one will serve you better and look badass while doing it.

My vote:Sig Sauer 522, hands down.

They're made by Umarex. I don't mind the Walther p22, but on this one I'd beware. Umarex is an air soft maker, and they love the hell outta Zamak.

On what lower?

My vote would be the SiG-522 ... but
I prefer the P522/SBR'd, it's a bit more accurate than my standard 522 and IMHO, way higher on the cool factor; if for no other reason because not every Tom, Dick & Harry has one

I decided to go with a CMMG dedicated upper myself. I swap it back and forth on several different lowers depending on what I'm trying to accomplish. Seems to work on all of them including the ones with fancy triggers.

good choice dogsoldier. i got the pink mp22 for the wife. never had a issue with it. its accurate, but it feels like a toy. i want one of them sig pretty bad. but no lgs have any. good luck. post pics when you get it

Robbins...I got mine at Cabelas. The guy at gun counter wasn't even aware they had one. I got it dealer price, NIB $299. Try Academy, Cabelas, big name store.

This one Ive had for a week. Got it for a song at Cabelas, the manager actually looked a little put out about it (think it might have been priced incorrectly at $299). Put a cheapie 3.5 MOA red dot on it zeroed at 25 yards, hits the same beyond that range and falls about 5 inches at 100, so not too bad and quite predictable. It is accurate, reliable (I know, Ive only put 500 rounds through it in a week, but no FTE, FTF, misfeeds, or situations that would call for a chamber clear) and it looks SO DARN GOOD!!!

I hope those of you who are looking for one find it. It is a superior .22 lr firearm. Good luck boyz.

I bought one M&P 15-22 and liked enough to buy a second. Very reliable. More accurate than I am from field/tactical type situation. I don't understand the complaints about it feeling like a toy. It's a .22lr. The recoil feels like a toy. If you want it to feel exactly like a .223/5.56 model, buy and shoot a .223/5.56.

It seems like the very early 522s had a few complaints but they seem to have tapered off quite quickly. It requires a pistol permit where I'm at which is annoying. I've also heard a few complaints of the stock catch that holds the stock folded closed breaking. Far more happy shooters than not though. For me, I liked the controls being the same as an AR. It's also nice to drop a few of the AR triggers I have around into the M&P.

I don't think I would have been disappointed if I would have bought a 522 but I can honestly say I couldn't be happier with either M&P 15-22.

I use my CMMG as a training tool, I want it as close to the weight and balance as my 5.56. I only wanted a .22 so when working drills with others it would save a fortune in ammo prices. I was not knocking the M&P, I like the way it shot. I just grew to where I wanted a heavier model. The M&P's are great if but not everyones cup of tea. The ONLY flaw I had with the M&P is the front handguard. While I like the rail, I wanted something that I could change to a different handguard. I know that the M&P handguards can be changed but it is a pain. I am the biggest supporter of the M&P series there is. I have the M&P 15, and love it. Out of my M4 style rifles it is my go to gun. I still think the M&P 15-22 is the best fit for most people and hands down better than the Colt/Umarex,Mossberg .22 or the Ruger Ar.22 (whatever their names are).

Colt M4 Ops, Mossberg 715t, and Ruger SR-22. My boy loves his 715t. It is based on the Plinkster, but in an AR shell. Not much to look at, but it shoots everything. Plus, it's light enough that he can wield it (under supervision, of course) comfortably. I've held the others, but not shot them.
