They were against guns and admited they were only against guns because they haven't been around them. My cousin (pink) is from Chicago, and her friend is from France. I did a solid hour pre safety lesson including grip, stance, how the gun works ext.

Now the best part is I started them on suppressed 22 to take the muzzle blast out of the equation. THEY ARE HOOKED! :D After a mag each they couldn't put the guns down. Now they want to shoot every week and have me teach them.

Just goes to show that most antis are only against guns because of how they were brought up or what they learn from the media/movies. Good times.

Great job on enlightening them. Even a French person, that's gotta be worth some kind of good karma there;)

Itchy, French folks are probably closer to Americans than any other Europeans. It's their .gov that's an issue.

Ironman, excellent job!

Thanks all! It was smokey from the grease used to lube the silencer booster.

Yeah it all started over Thanksgiving dinner, guns always come up in our discussions and my cousin is a new transplant from Chicago as is her French friend. They both started with the usual "who needs guns blah blah" so I offered to let them try it to see for themselves and they took me up on it. They loved it! I also got across the need for concealed carry, good times!

The French one is in a local sorority. Hopefully ill have a new video title in the near future..."Sorority shooting" or "insert sorority name, goes shooting" I'll see what I can do....

Man! I wish we could have suppressors here. But no! Only assassins need those!

I would think a larger target might be a good idea for first time shooters.

Nice work!

I have yet to find someone who didn't like shooting, save for an instance when a first timer insisted on shooting the .45 first. She changed her mind and went down to the .22 for a while after that, but still had a great day. One thing that we have to keep in my is to get gun neutral people out to the range to as well as anti's. The more of the population that is on the 2nd Amendment side, the better.

Antis are often just ignorant and/or fearful. Remove the fear and ignorance and you remove the anti. I find it is easier to make an anti accept guns than to turn a gun person into an anti. So many times it takes just one trip to a range for an anti to have things click for them. Not that they necessarily become avid shooters but at least they are no longer against guns. Most pro gun people I know that got away from guns made it a personal choice. They did not become anti or feel the need to restrict others.

And yes the french girl is very cute but the cousin in pink is also lovely. I think 'Cuz' did better from me just skimming the video. Cool shooting setup. Back yard shooting is one of the biggest justifications of a suppressor for me. I can only shoot air guns on my property but I am happy with that.

Nice going. A thought that came to my mind while reading your post is this. Most anti-gun are libs. Most of Hollywood are libs. Hollywood loves to make movies with a lot of gun violence. That hate the gun when not in movie mode but love it when it pads their pocket.

Hello Fireman,

Glad to hear about your success. Ya, I find it pretty easy to convert most anti's to gun fanatics. I've lost count of the number I've converted. Some take much longer than others of course but it can still be done. Glad to hear of your success.

What gun was that? Looks like a 1911 of sorts.

I'm curious as to why this took an hour. Maybe I'm missing something .. which concerns me. The four rules is pretty quick to explain. Gun take down and and reassembly is five minutes tops. Add in 10 minutes of explanation and you get to 15.

Dunno, maybe with newbies things progress slower.

Well done! Sounds like everyone had a great time. Even if they don't become regular shooters from here, you've done your part to act as a good ambassador to gun owners. Thanks for that.

My course takes at least two hours. Those that have never handled or operated firearms generally know nothing as to how the gun works, ammunition function (primer, powder, case, bullet, etc.). I cover SA revolvers, DA revolvers and automatics, grasping the firearm, stance choice, sight alignment, trigger release techniques, on and on.

Safety rules are drilled in demonstrated and practiced. I set no time limit and head to the range when everyone is ready.

BTW, excellent post Ironman!

Good on ya, Ironman. I am working on two myself, my Brother and Sister in-law. Ironically it was that show Doomsday Preppers that planted the seed in their minds... I hate that show.

Most anti-gun are libs.

That's a narrow and ill-informed opinion. In the SE US there are any number of very socially and politically conservative people that don't think anything other than traditional hunting long guns should be in the hands of "decent people". Be careful about using limited local experience to overgeneralize when thinking about firearms rights issues.

And she's a French sorority! You dog, you ;)

I kinda miss bringing new shooters into the fold; where I am now, everybody shoots, so there's little novelty/mystery for most people. Nothing beats that slow but unstoppable stupid grin of the first timers, though:D.

This.

One of the few people I personally know who simply refuse to shoot, own or carry a firearm is one of the most conservative and politically active individuals I know. Tea Parties and the like. She is terrified of firearms to the point that she will scarcely discuss them. I also have a feeling she lends some credence to the widely-propagated myth that the Bible condemns self defense, and she's not the only Christian I've encountered who believes this; though as someone who's done the studying to know that this is simply not the case I've been able to change a few minds. Some religious folks are stubborn on this issue though, sometimes more so than those who would identify themselves as leftist.

Keep in mind that many so-called liberals and anti-gun folks are not stalwartly so. Many simply lack the physical experience of handling and understanding a firearm to combat what they've been duped into believing by a largely ignorant society. To effectively win over these types, firearm owners must be able to contrast the negative image that's been projected onto them as crude, unsophisticated, unapologetic and unempathetic by simultaneously being NONE of those things and ready and willing to educate on the subject. From watching the video the OP seems to have done an excellent job at accomplishing this. Kudos to you sir!

"And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful. Opponents must be gently instructed..." 2 Tim. 2:24-25. Whether you're a Christian or not these are excellent ideals for the 2A supporter to live by and will go a long way in effecting support for the cause.

As far as the hour-long safety lecture is concerned, anyone who teaches weapons safety on a day-to-day basis to persons who are totally ignorant of firearms knows that it usually takes at least that much time to truly develop a person's senses and understanding to the point that they will NOT violate at least one of the five rules as soon as they pick the weapon up. Hands-on instruction with the weapon unloaded following simple and understandable verbal instruction helps immensely. This helps to determine whether or not they truly understand what you just explained to them. I help run a paintball field on weekends and though the markers are not actual firearms they can be misused to dangerous effect. As such we choose to teach a well-rounded weapons safety orientation each morning and continue to reinforce safe weapons handling practices throughout the day. It is NOT an easy task especially with that many people, but it can be made much easier by taking a significant amount of time out for training and education on weapons handling at the get-go. It cannot be done effectively in a couple of minutes. If we spent that little time on marker handling we'd be having all sorts of mishaps. We've tried and paid for it every time. Point; you can never spend enough time teaching safety, but you CAN spend too little.
