Another TV pro "hunter" bites the dust!

Whats with the six months suspension.I don't think its near enough but depending on what time of year it might mean nothing.

Pardon me for saying so, but selling someone a deer tag requiring them only to shoot deer on their own land is asking for trouble. If you look at a property that is covered with box blinds they are almost always around the outside fence so the hunters can shoot over on the neighbors property. Good grief!

On a leased ranch in Texas, a neighboring-ranch lease hunter set up a stand right be the fence of our lease with its window facing our lease. Our rancher saw it. Next day, that window was nailed shut, and a new window was cut into the other side. Hint was taken. Stand was moved.

A fella sets up next to a ranch fence, next thing he knows the rancher from across the fence pulls up in a jeep or pickup and in a loud voice asks, "Howdy! You havin' any luck?"

It's not too hard to break folks from sucking eggs...

Cheating has to be the expectation once you introduce money and fame into deer hunting...or anything else for that matter.

It wouldn't surprise me if every TV hunting show there is was violating game laws. Those shows aren't about hunting...they are about the hosts getting as much fame as they can so they can sell more merchandise and make more money.

They have to deliver big deer on film or they don't get paid...and I believe that a lot of them will do whatever it takes to get that done.

at six months, the suspension will be lifted by the time season starts again!
that's not a punishment, that's permission to do it again.

Saw this a couple weeks ago on archerytalk. What makes it worse in my opinion is that it happened five years ago and is, from what I understand, the kill that started his career or fame or whatever you want to call it

Spann's permit was for his property. He knew that and by using it agreed to hunt within the confines of it. Even if he had a permit to hunt other property, if he did not have permission to hunt that property, he would have still been in violation. Odds are that trophy buck was there because of limited access. Odds are Spann knew the buck was there before hand and was fine with his permit thinking the buck would sooner or later cross the fence.....or he intended to violate and cross the property line all along. Violators always have a excuse to try and legitimatize their actions, just as you are doing in your post. Gee, giving out any license is asking for a violator to violate. Funny, many don't bother with a license. Spann probably did because he wanted to promote his kill, even tho he did it illegally. Around here many box stands are on the property line also. Doesn't mean folks shoot across the property line. One is free to put up a blind anywhere on their land, and if they want to watch the neighbors property at the same time, so be it. But it's still against the law in most states to shoot across a property line at game and to retrieve that game......without permission. Your thoughts that just because a blind is on the fence line means there must be violating going on and that by the issuance of restrictive licenses is asking for someone to violate tends to make me question your attitude on compliance on game/trespassing laws in general. Spann, like many so called "celebrity" hunters are not really hunters, but shooters. To them success is measured by the size of the kill and not the size/quality of the hunt. Many of these so called "Pro" hunters got their claim to fame by questionable kills. Very few game violators stop at one or commit only one violation. I just hope the cameraman got fined for trespassing also. He was just as much of a criminal as Spann. Yeah, not a hunter or TV celebrity, but a criminal.

buck, when I commented on rcmodel's post I was bringing up two wrongs. I thought the idea of the State selling a license restricting the shooter to a specific property was a bad idea just asking for trouble. I had no intend to ligitimize the violator's actions and I don't know how you made that twisted interpretation. Also, I was trying to say that I don't like the idea of placing box blinds around the parimeter of a property because just their position makes it look like the occupants plan on shooting across the fence.
