We don't have a gun registry
We don't register our guns
When we buy a gun the record is "destroyed" in 30 days
The 7743 is only kept by the dealer and only released to police and ATF
So where are all these maps and list coming from?

I understand that ccw licenses are public but the maps are "gun owners"
Where do these scum get my name and address as a gun owner

I think it's because in some states (particularly in the northeast), you have to have a "permit" just to be allowed to purchase some guns. It's not a permit to carry just a permit to purchase. I think the newspaper is publishing the names of those permit holders.

Dealers are bound by law to keep their 4473 records for 20 years. I'm not quite certain if they can dispose of an old bound book that only contains dispositions that are >20 years old.

It's not too difficult to deduce that permit holders are almost always gun owners as well.

Dealer bound books must be retained forever and turned over to the ATF when the dealer goes out of business.

The gun owner lists in certain states are either concealed carry permit holder or, as was the case in NY, handgun permit holders. They are state-maintained lists, not federal lists.

In Illinois residents must have a "Firearms Owner ID" card to possess any firearm in the state. The state police manage that process and of course have a list of every FOID card holder in the state. Various groups and media outlets have tried for years to get that list made public. Thankfully, so far they have failed.
