Dad poses as gunman to test school security, gets arrested

while this guy is most likely not the brightest bulb in the bunch.....and he senselessly caused a panic....

.....he did make a good point.

this guy didnt even show a gun and he waltzed right in unopposed and unquestioned....if anything it shows that school security is in need of serious reform.

Uh, no. Read the story. He told the door greeter that he was armed and she would not stop him.

School security in my area of Northern California is nonexistent. Many uncontrolled or even observed points of entry. I enter my kid's elementary and high schools at different points while carrying concealed all the time. At least public schools are not gun free zones here in California.

Although, when I was requesting the dean's permission to concealed carry at a junior college (in order to avoid suspension/expulsion), I was referred to a campus police officer who said it was illegal and I would be arrested. His Chief later corrected him, and dean gave me consent, but just goes to show that the cops don't always know their state laws.

I'd rather support the arrest and charging of the school officials and administration for endangering the children in their care. After all, there are many MANY things they could be doing to prevent this sort of occurrence. I don't necessarily support this guy's method, but his message is the truth. Your children (I say "your" because my kids are home schooled - I take responsibility for the education of my children as is my duty as a parent) are entrusted to these people for safety and education - Their history books are filled with half-truths and lies (Come on, at least one district in Texas has a history book that teaches that the Boston Tea Party was an act of terrorism - http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/11/26/boston-tea-party-was-act-_n_2193916.html), and they do nothing to prevent violence from being done upon those children entrusted to their care.

He will pay for making them look stupid!

If this guy is a whack job, idiot or whatever, he still deserves good legal defense nonetheless.

After all, Gregory did actually break the possession law but got off because he was making a point.

In both cases, the "lawbreaker" would have been well advised to have contacted at least one person in charge beforehand. If you are going to "test" TSA (or the like, or any law), you'd better have have good cover.

Well he tested security! And now he knows, as they put him in jail, they DO have security and they take a DIM view of what he did.

You know if TEXAS gets teachers with guns (as I hope they do) and some stupid guy does just this, well he will get even a better idea of how well we protect our kids down here!

I drive My school bus here in Dayton Ohio everyday to 4 different schools High School and elementary ,I wear regular street Clothes driving my bus no one can Identify me as a Bus Driver ,I can walk up to every school I go to open the door and walk right in to rooms or any hall way I desire.last week Our Public High schools Superintendent put a letter in the local newspaper about How safe Our Schools are...He should be Fired and and charged with criminal negligence...I've done the same thing this guy did several times just to see if anyone would stop Me, hasn't happened yet...Our city has 2 full time City police Officers who are assigned to Our schools daily and the High school has 3 Unarmed security guard during all school Hours..as well

Under a slightly different scenario (a police officer at the school, for example), he could have been killed. This stunt makes as much sense as trying to "test" airport security. The authorities have no sense of humor, or tolerance for stuff like this.

Wow, there were hundreds of much better ways he could've brought this to public attention and he chose the worst.
No doubt schools aren't ready for such events, they're soft targets.
The country is buzzing about the best way to protect kids in obviously unprotected schools, and he felt the urge to point out the obvious at the very costly expense of his own freedom. I feel for the guy, because he meant well but damnit that just wasn't very bright..

I think it is always a bad idea to threaten people , especially when in the shadow of recent violent events ! What would happen if the administrator had jabbed him in the throat with the point of an umbrella , or smacked him with a blunt object ? Poor choice of behavior ! Kevin

Agreed, but I think it demonstrates just how much of this is all "security theater" designed to make people feel safer rather then actually protect anyone.

I've seen idiotic behavior like this before. In one case some rentacop security guards decided to show how poor security was by dressing up like ninjas and prowl around a companies grounds (they might even have used their security badges to enter buildings). They were caught on secruity cameras and stopped. When it was found out who they were the really bright supervisor on duty sent them on their way. In addition to the ninjas, guess who got fired.

At a oil refinery, the head of safety/security came in one night and planted fake "bombs". Then bragged how he had overcome security at the facility and it needed to be improved. He then proceeded to show the boss' where he had planted his "bombs".

Funny thing is, he couldn't find them. He was spotted as soon as he came in and a couple of operators followed him around picking up his "bombs". He became unemployed that afternoon.

What a TOOL!

I hope he gets a no time felony plea as I don't think prison money should be wasted on him but I would feel better knowing someone with so little common sense and such poor judgement was never able to legally own a firearm.

Heck when you think about it, he was betting his life on this.

Either he was going to prove that the school's safety was inadequate, or, if it were, then the response to his "drill" would have been him getting shot.

Yeah, he's an idiot. You see the same thing in the computer industry where kids will hack into a company's computers and such and then claim they were just "testing out the security". The courts don't buy it there, and I doubt they'll buy the excuse here either.

He will probably will get 2/3 years hard labor & that 6 year old that stuck out his finger like a gun will probably get 2 years probation.

Sam, its a bit of a stretch to call the Boston tea party an act of terrorism, by any accounts.

the event was actually quite un-eventful....they broke a lock( which they replaced), and tossed some tea off a boat over the course of a few hours. its intent was more to send a message in protest rather than it was to install a sense of fear.
