That really looks like a sensible firearm to me.... NOT ! And we wonder why they want to take these types?

That's an old Calico 22lr with 100 round helical drum magazine. the LAST AWB killed off the Calico just as they were getting interesting with a 9mm version with 50 round helical mag.
Not very many of the pistols were made, IIRC, but I am not an expert of any kind on Calico.

Oh yes. Unfortunately. Back in late 80's (early 90's?) Calicos were briefly a hot item. A heavy, clumsy, rather inaccurate and slow to reload novelty that had a massive magazine capacity; a spiritual successor to SAR 180/275, some might say. At one time they were everywhere.
I really wanted a 9mm Calico until I read the posts of the many many many owners who had trouble with the magazines.
IMO the company made it seem like you wound up the mag and just fired away 100 rounds until the mag was empty, but what most users wrote was that they'd get 10 or 12 shots and then have to wind the mag, another dozen shots and then wind it up again. And if you overwound it - it was very difficult to fix.
There are some You-Tube videos of the carbines going through 50 or 100 rounds with no winding so - I don't know.

The new Oregon produced Calico's are said to be much improved.

My buddy has one in 9mm. A heck of a lot of fun to shoot. The ventral ejection is a plus if you're a reloader, too.

The calico is great at ticking antis and gunners both off...they get mad about the 100 round capacity and we get mad at the 94 fte 
I own a Calico Liberty I 9mm (the one in the pic is a 9mm) after replacing the rolling block again its finally reliable (for this gun I call 1-2 jams per mag reliable),they are fun to shoot, a pain to repair and pointless to aim...if you want one try to find the carbine, the pistol.sucks with the 100.rounder on it, it was designed for the 50 round drum.
