Once upon a time, I felt I couldn't shoot this much because ammo was expensive and hard to find.

It's still expensive, but not a lot more than anything else these days!

AND... there's more of it on the shelves than anything except .500 S&W.

It's getting a lot more attention these days! :)
 
I can't make out what it is chambered for. Help us out by telling us.

Other ammo being scarce or not if this gun is chambered in a round that begins with a "4" then you need to look at getting into reloading your own. It costs a good chunk of change to get set up but once you're there I can't think of any sort of handgun rounds other than .500S&W which you CAN'T reload for under $10 for 50. There's simply no reason why this great looking wheelgun needs to lanquish unused in the safe at ANY time or due to ANY political climate issues.
 
.38 S&W.

It gets used, just not as much as my other 9mm's.

Yeah, I do need to get set up for loading so I can shoot EVERYTHING more. That's one of my priorities this year, just after getting another kayak built.

This one has the sweetest trigger I've ever pulled.
 
The only 38 S&W factory ammo I have ever bought was 4 boxes of old ammo at gun shows and only because it was cheap enough to buy for the brass for reloading. I have those 200 pieces and another bag of 100 so I'm pretty well set up for a while.

The 38 S&W is a fun caliber to shoot, especially in such a nice gun like you have!

Thanks. And yeah, it is fun caliber, especially for the girls and the kids. I loaned it to my daughter earlier in the year and had to twist it out of her hands to get it back.
 
Be aware that these Colt's, chambered in .38 S&W/.38 Colt New Police/.38 Colt Police Positive (all the same but different names) are an exception to the rule.

The chamber throats and barrel groove diameters are the same as .38 Special, that means you can handload using easy-to-find .358 dia. bullets rather then harder-to-find .361 slugs. When you buy loading dies get an extra .358" inside neck sizing plug and you're good to go. :cool:
