Just got a TRS-25 in the mail yesterday and wondering if this is normal. There's what appears to be a large glob of brown glue inside the scope, which I assume is where the dot projects from. However, it's not the typical square piece of metal I'm used to seeing, and it seems to obstruct the field of view way more than it should. Other red dot sights I've looked through don't have anything like that (Aimpoint, Ultradot, and a cheap UTG). If it's not normal for a TRS I'll exchange it (got it on Amazon). Here's a pic that doesn't clearly show the glue, but does show how it blocks the field of view. As you can see, it sticks out even when looking straight through the scope.

Good to know. At least now I don't have to bother returning it... It's a little annoying, but really has no significant detrimental effect on shooting with both eyes open. Then again, I've found that with both eyes open I can leave the lens cap on and still hit a plate sized target up to 50 yards...

I was tempted to get the UTG, which has a quick release mounting lever, flip up covers, red and green dots, and is 1/3 the price. But my goal for this gun was ultra light weight, so the Bushnell stays...

Now, if only Ruger would stop putting that ridiculous 3/8" scope rail on top of their scope base! Rubber covers on the Bushnell and the Aimpoint micro my dad has don't fit! Now I have to buy another scope rail... :(

I suspect that's the mount for the laser LED. Mine has it too. Nothing to worry about.

it definitely is. I just thought it looked funny with a mound of glue over it instead of just a little rectangle like all the other ones have. Maybe it makes it more durable/stable? ;)

Actually, I just saw a review that has a clearer picture of one. Definitely does not look like mine, but still obstructs the view about the same. Haven't shot mine yet, but as long as I can adjust it to hit at point of aim, I'll be satisfied.

My BSA red dot has the led in the upper right quadrant of the scope and I cannot see it at all.

I have the same sight and it is normal. It is a little distracting at first if you are used to better sights (EoTech Aimpoint etc). The TRS-25 is a great little sight for the money and I am happy with it. Good accuracy and can handle recoil well. So a little bump that you can see inside the unit doesn't bother me.
