Why dont they restock the Starr?

IIRC (having bought one 14 years ago) the Starr is a bit on the expensive side. That plus if they aren't big sellers probably doesn't encourage Cabela's (or others) to assure they remain well stocked.
My gun works OK but the design is not really the best ... it isn't a true "double action" like a modern revolver. An adjustable "bump" on the trigger (which actually NOT the true trigger it merely advances the cylinder) trips the sear which is in back of the trigger guard. You can use it in single action and that bump thingie is moved and the gun is cocked by the ... "trigger" but then you have to remove your trigger finger and press that sear.
During the Civil War the innovative Starr DA revolver was disdained by the soldiers and the company was asked to make single action revolvers.

They are frequently problematic. The one I have is such a revolver. Pretty and looks almost exactly like an original but does not seem to want to work very well. One Union officer remarked that the individual who foisted this revolver off on a nation at war should be hanged as a traitor. I don't know about the single action.

The double action used the top of the hammer as a rear sight like the Colt's revolvers. Kinda hard to use in a double action mode.

It was the third most common civil war handgun-official handgun at least but was way behind the coltarmy and remington . Could be the demand for a repro- while present isn't quite as large or consistent as the other models pietta makes.

it is the da/trigger cocking version. I don't know about swapping parts. I've got a feeling that there would be problems. These pictures lost a bit in reduction but the takedown shows the hair trigger and some other related giblets.

The originals were duds. The repros copied the poor design, and added some quality issues.

No, the frames are different. Both the SA and DA have their own idiosyncrasies, Once you learn what not to do they are fairly reliable. I would much prefer a Colt or Rem SA in a serious situation but at the range these are great fun and enjoyable to shoot.

These did not sell as well as the lower cost Colt/Rem repros, like the Colt Patterson you have to want it.
