I have taken moose in British Columbia with a 303 Jungle Carbine shooting 215 grain factory and 215 grain reloads.
I shot a nice bull broadside at 60 yards and it was dead with one shot, another calf moose was shot the next season and it fell over with one shot.
Big heavy bullets work in the...
The shooting world needs the .338 Federal like a fish needs a bicycle.:neener:
I watched one being shot at the range and the accuracy was terrible. 2 inches at 100 yards was the best the rifle could do. My trusty Whelen was putting the 250 Hornady's 3/8ths apart at the same distance. He...
"The world needs the .338 Federal like a fish needs a bicycle", I wish I would have said that.:D
I had my Whelen at the range a few weeks back and a gent showed up with a .338 Federal.
I got the Whelen to shoot well under an inch at 100 yds while the .338 Fed never got got under 2 inches at...
8mm Mauser
Anything the 30-06 can do , the 8mm Mauser will do just as well.
I actually prefer the 8mm Mauser over the 06. The 06 is just a copy of something good.........:D
303 loads
I have good success with H4895,IMR 4895, BLC-2, IMR 4064, IMR 4350 with the heavy bullets like the 215 grainer.
I have also loaded some .308 diameter bullets in my jungle carbine and get accuracy as good as the 311 or 312 diameter,I guess it's what diameter your bore is.
It looks like Longbranch wood and rear sight on a Savage (Lendlease) rifle.
While not being original, the parkerizing and woodwork looks well done. It's still a nice rifle. and I would definitely hunt with it............:)
Rem 700
The Rem 700 is a very good rifle whether it wears a walnut, laminate or synthetic stock.
I have had many ADL models, they are every bit as good as the BDL in terms of accuracy.
I would rather have the ADL than any detachable mag version...........:)
It was an 8 &3/8ths barrel with open sights. You have to wear eye protection, ear plugs and ear muffs !!!! Shooting gloves are recommended too.
The inside of the shooting enclosure was dry from the percussion and flames, after a full cylinder of 440 fullhouse loads it stops being fun....not...
I don't know which gun is oldest but my Remington 700 Mountain Rifle in 7x57 is the oldest caliber.:)
Then the CDL in 35 Whelen and then new kid on the block , the Remington BDL in 300 Win mag
