Lightest Felt Recoil for a .38 Special

Tried the Federal 110gr stuff today. It is very easy on the hands.

    Red dot scopes

I've had a Nikon Monarch VSD on a .22 for awhile, and it's great. i have no idea how it would stand up to heavy stuff. The variable-size dot solves a bunch of problems --- and it's the first dot sight I've had that doesn't shift when the reticule is switched.

Lightest Felt Recoil for a .38 Special

My wife tried my Model 60 (2-1/8") with S&B 148gr and didn't find it horrible. Unfortunately, the FMJ is probably a rotten choice. The only reason I bought the stuff was because it was the only standard pressure available at the time and she wanted to try the gun. (I usually use +P, but...

Should I buy this used sig p229?

I have a 229 in .40 (DA/SA) with TTF sights, LaserMax, "short" trigger (and the old "long" one), 6 mags --- and a 9mm BarSto barrel. It functions flawlessly in either caliber. After going through a bunch of other equipment, I've come to the (sad) conclusion that my hand will never quite fit the...

    .380acp in a 9x18 makarov

A guy at our range puts .380 through a Makarov regularly. They all keyhole, and the cases are scary. He handloads, too --- so some day ...

Colt Defender...What do I need to know?

A nice guy at Colt sent me six spring sets, some time ago. I have no idea if that's standard practice, but I can suggest this as (what seems to me to be) an eye-opener: keep a fresh spring handy; mike-up the spring from your gun against the fresh one. They get "squished" real fast.

Colt Defender...What do I need to know?

Try +P in it. Well, just for curiosity's sake. I had mine and loved it. Also worked on it and had it worked on more than all the others combined. When it worked properly (like, tried to work every time ...) it was great. It fairly close --- which wasn't enough. Maybe it's just my hand. My...

    .22 LR ammo question

I've tried a bunch of ammo types and lube types. Lube: least is best. Ammo? Gee, I haven't found any really, really clean .22's, but Stingers (and other stuff with higher velocities) seem to "blow out" more of the .22 gunk. I use Federal Premium Golds, mainly. I get the best groups for the buck...

    +P for .38 S&W revolver

I've tried (in a S&W 60-14): Magtech Gold 125 gr +P JHP CCI Blazer 125 gr +P JSP Winchester 125 gr +P SJHP Federal 158 gr +P Nyclad From a 2-1/8" barrel, to me they all feel pretty much the same. (Which surprises me with the 158 gr.) Federal 130 gr .357's are a different world --- kind of...

Recoil- Airweight J-frame vs. .380 PPK

I have a PPK/S, and I don't find it particularly annoying to shoot. UNJAMMING, however, is not something I'd want to be faced with anywhere off the range. The lack of a slide stop (unless you deliberately carry an empty mag) plus a 20-lb recoil spring makes things complicated. I like it, though...

    Walther PPK Question

I have an S&W that's pretty much flawless. BIG DA pull, great SA. Seems to work with anything (except a S&B squib I had once). Felt recoil is minor compared with, say, a Kel-Tec. Jams are a pain, because there's no slidelock (except an empty magazine). Takedown takes less time than typing...

    First Revolver

2-1/8" barrel, plain ramped front and "trench" sights. Those "faux ivory" stocks --- and an engraving on the right frame, Eagle/Statue of Liberty, "United We Stand." I already have some very functional stuff. I had to like the way a new addition actually looked. I'm not really into the skull &...

    First Revolver

Picked up my first revolver today! S&W 60, "United We Stand" model. Even my wife thinks it's pretty. :D I've shot AirWeights, and found them a little to punishing for my achy hand. This one's got a little heft to it. I guess once I've gotten it to the range I'll have to shift to the...

    22lr ammo (my quick comparison)

If $$ are no problem, Lapua Midas. Right after that, Eley Biathlon. Federal Premium Gold. They all shoot better than I do. At 50 feet the group differences are waaaay smaller than my "jiggle zone." Off a rest, though, there is a very real, very consistent difference --- in my MK III.

    ATN Ultralight

Had one. Worked OK for awhile. Then it stopped holding zero, no matter where the locking screw was. Yanked out the battery, threw the thing away. My opinion.
