    Springfield Armory's SA16-A2

From the specs it looks like they are building a really good A2 rifle. Im very interested in it if they turn out to be as good as the specs say they should be.

    Are Colt barrels any good?

My Colt barrels have all been great shooters. My free floated Colt 6920 would group 1.5 - 2 MOA with any decent 55 grain ball ammo. It shot multiple MOA groups with match grade ammo. My prior duty gun (Colt 6920) that I purchased from the department still shoots sub 3 MOA with 55 grain ball...

    7.62x39 v. 7.62x51 short range wounding differences

Ballot has been on this forum for a long time. He posts discussion provoking hypotheticals pretty often. With the adoption/testing of the XM7 currently, discussions of the battle rifle vs the assault rifle are happening all over the internet.

    7.62x39 v. 7.62x51 short range wounding differences

Against rifle rate body armor neither 7.62 Nato, x39, or 5.56 is really going to make a difference. None are going to penetrate. There are multiple scenarios where a US citizen could possibly need to defend themselves at extended distances. Especially if someone owns decent amounts of property.

    7.62x39 v. 7.62x51 short range wounding differences

Even if I new I had engagements out to 500 yards I'd still choose 5.56 over 7.62x51 because of recoil, weight, etc... To put it simply. Will it make a difference under 150 yards? Yes. Will that difference matter? Probably not. Is the increase in performance worth the other tradeoffs? To me...

    7.62x39 v. 7.62x51 short range wounding differences

Hathcock died in 99. Mawhiney recently passed though. I think that's who you're thinking of with the M14.

    7.62x39 v. 7.62x51 short range wounding differences

What I'm saying is Ive never seen a guy take a 7.62 Nato COM and stay up except for a guy shot at 350 meters. Everyone closer, and longer too, has been down hard pretty much immediately. I can't say the same about 5.56 or 7.62x39. I shot a guy at 50 yards with a modern defensive round 223 and...

    7.62x39 v. 7.62x51 short range wounding differences

Just to clarify, the incidents above were not the norm. I'm still picking 5.56 over 7.62x51 as my main fighting cartridge every day of the week.

    7.62x39 v. 7.62x51 short range wounding differences

It might make a difference. I've seen guys take solid 5.56 and 7.62x39 COM hits and still be up and about for a bit. They were really jacked up from the shots and most quickly went down and died, but they were ambulatory fit a bit. The only time I've ever seen someone take a solid 7.62x51 COM...

    7.62x39 v. 7.62x51 short range wounding differences

From my experience there is a pretty big difference in performance at all ranges. 7.62 Nato dumps dudes with authority. Shots to the body usually won't show a big difference in the external wounds. However wounds to limbs and the head show a distinct difference. All that being said, I'm a big...

    Complete AR15 with 1:8 twist?

I've been running a BCM SS410 1in8 twist barrel for years now. Shoots sub MOA ready with match ammo and stays around 1.5 - 2 MOA with bulk 55 grain. Good enough for shooting sohlouettes out to 600 yards. I've run 77 grain out to just under 1100 yards.

    5.56 in 223

I had a 223 Bushmaster AR15 duty gun. There was a summer that we ran mostly 5.56 in training due to supply issues. When the Bushmastets got hot we would start to get popped primers. Not every round. But it jammed up several guns each training day with primers getting into the action and trigger...

I've shot the metal M&P. It's a great shooting gun.

    9.3x62 vs .375 h&h

Ammoseek.com shows: 9.3x62 with 75 options 375 Ruger with 160 options 375 H&H with 395 options All are roughly the same price with hunting ammo loads. Though the H&H can be bought with FMJ from PPU which is a little cheaper.

Thinking about a RIA 22 AR style.

Another option is the Tippman m4-22. I bought one as a trainer for my daughter and I and it's a true 1 to 1 for a regular AR. Mine had been fully reliable and pretty accurate. I only use a red dot and haven't benched it yet, but it's hit everything I've shot at with it out to at least 200 yards.
