Powder dragout using Imperial Sizing Die Wax inside case mouths

rcmodel, I hear you. I was using a nylon brush, or a Q-Tip, applying what I thought was the minimum amount that would be consistently spread and effective, but I am new to rifle loading, and none too bright. I'll try the less-is-more approach, and probably also run a controlled trial with...

Powder dragout using Imperial Sizing Die Wax inside case mouths

Seeking more uniform shoulder setback, I switched from graphite to Imperial for lubing case mouth interiors, and installed a Redding Carbide Button. Although the Carbide Button may eliminate the need for lubing mouth interiors, I decided to use a little Imperial on the first 20 or so rounds...

Hornady Lock N Load AP Questions

I second the suggestion that you consider a Lee Classic Turret for the application you describe. I have a LNL, Lee Turret, and Lee Classic SS, and probably use the Turret the most. It's mounted on the Lee Stand, and is very easy to move, like when I want to load on the porch, or at the range...

Headspacing issue with 5.56, Redding Nat Match dies

I'll try that when I get home. Thanks.

Headspacing issue with 5.56, Redding Nat Match dies

Cases will go into the gauge backwards, and unfired LC M885 from the same batch are exactly flush with the bottom step of the Wilson gauge, as they should. It seems to be the shoulder stopping the case's forward progress: there seems to be no friction on the case parallel surfaces.

Headspacing issue with 5.56, Redding Nat Match dies

Yes, I forgot to say, I used graphite to lube interior of case necks.

Headspacing issue with 5.56, Redding Nat Match dies

I am about to load my first 5.56 rounds and have a case headspacing question. The cases are from LC M885 fired once in my SIG556. The equipment includes a Lee Turret (Hornady LNL AP and Lee Classic SS available but not being used), Redding National Match Die Set, Hornady Comparator, Giraud...

    10mm 155gr XTP's

I compiled some recipes at https://docs.google.com/a/sanfordconsulting.biz/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0ApfazXeV8cnBdGdKYl8xZFRlakdUOUptaXRWMlFUQ3c&hl=en_US#gid=7. I think there are 90 some for 155 gr, several for XTP. I just compiled these loads, cannot vouch and am not responsible for them, they...

    "Squaring" dies on the press

I am using Hornady Lock N Load Die Bushings, and I had never noticed there is a rubber O-ring under them, which provides some flex to the die position, like a Lee die clamp ring. I'm guessing that will obviate the usefulness of squaring the dies, and that with the Hornady bushings you rely on...

    "Squaring" dies on the press

I need to revisit my die setup, and I noticed some information about "squaring" dies in the press, that is, adjusting them, then applying pressure from the shellplate before locking them down: http://www.exteriorballistics.com/reloadbasics/resize.cfm...

Hornady HAP in Federal and Win NATO brass

The winner is: GooseGestapo. I was indeed oversizing the brass. I had screwed the Redding sizing dies down to the shellplate the other day for some reason. Adjusting it out 1/2 turn allowed me to go back to using the Redding crimp die, and putting the Lee FCD away. No unsightly bulge now, and...

Hornady HAP in Federal and Win NATO brass

I've been loading 9mm 125gr HAP at 1.10 or 1.09 COL in Federal brass with the Redding taper die that comes with the Competition Pro set. The finished round has a diameter of .377 at the mouth, which I take to be a normal crimp. All is well with this round. Hornady loads the same bullet in their...

    Adjusting QuickLoad for VihtaVuori powders

As described in another post, I had some rounds turn out much slower than QuickLoad predicted, and am curious if you have had the same issue, particularly with VihtaVuori powders. I was loading 125 gr HAP over VV N330, and got deviations of up to 170 fps slower than predicted chronographing...

FTF with N330 under 125gr HAP in G34

I like the N330, it's clean and shoots pretty soft. I've got 3N37, 3N38, PowerPistol and some N320 for hotrodding, but I'm trying to make a single round that I can practice and compete with, affordably, in all three guns, and the N330 seems like a good candidate, as does the HAP. Can't push the...

FTF with N330 under 125gr HAP in G34

Yes, that bullet is in the current QL database, as is the 121 gr HAP at .356.
