Thompson 1927 A-1 and HK P30 (9mm)
The A-1 was my dad's and I wanted to like it so bad, but the drum mag was a challenge to load and it was a jam-o-holic.
The P30 was my first polymer framed firearm and it felt good just holding it, but not so much shooting it. It was traded for a S&W 686+.
In CA: all handguns are required to use FFL. All modern long guns require FFL. C&R long guns require FFL03 & COE (certificate of eligibility)
COE requires finger printing and FBI background check.
All transactions through FFL also require the 10 day "cooling off" period.

My grandkids were born in the summer of 2020. There both getting Henry Golden Boys with the personalized receiver cover. Their parents can decide when it's time to shoot, but I'm getting old and it's time to gift!
My dad was left handed and had trouble finding lefty bolt guns. So if you decide to try it and don't like it, you probably won't have to much trouble selling it. Unless the caliber is near unobtanium.
My father had a reproduction "Tommy" gun that had trouble running more than a few rounds through it. Never even got to try the drum mag. The stick mags wouldn't even feed correctly, then the bolt came apart.
We were so excited to try it out and became disappointed very quickly.
I worked for a custom rifle builder for 6-7 months before he moved from CA to Idaho. 6.5 chamberings were dominated by 6.5 PRC (mostly for hunters) and 6GT for competition shooters.

Just ordered 2 Henry Golden Boys for the grandkids to shoot! They're turning 2 this summer. My wife thinks I'm crazy, but its never to early to purchase!
I'll let their parents decide when its time to teach them to shoot.
I believe to wring the most potential from your rifle, reloading is necessary. While there is good match ammo available, it's not tuned to your rifle specifically.
Since you've tried the reloading avenue and don't care to do it, I'd suggest sending your rifle to a custom ammo manufacturer that...
