What is the going rate to have a new bolt handle welded on a 98 Mauser bolt? Has anyone had that done lately? I already have the handle from Brownells and need a gunsmith to weld it on. I have one quote of $100 which is a little more than I wanted to spend.
Thanks to those who gave advice on what kind of Mauser action I have. I know it is a 98 large ring. I have had it re-barrelled ( to 7x57) and the gunsmith said there was no set back in the receiver. It is a good shooter, I just was curious as I had not seen any mausers with those markings...
I have a military Mauser 98, large ring which was originally chambered for 8mm (7.92). It did not have a crest on the receiver from any nation and the only marking is a stylized dagger (?) and caliber marking on the left side of the receiver ring then the serial # on left side of receiver. I...
I was just thinking last night...Why did I sell that excellent condition Enfield #5 carbine? Then there was that M1A, AR-15 SP-1, Remington BDL 30-06. So many more...the horror!
All the thumbhole stocked Century guns I have seen are built on a metric receiver so metric mags, which are cheaper anyway, should be what the rifle would take. Go over the FAL Files for all info on FALs. There are a lot of variations out there.
$400 is a good deal for a rifle like that but if you don't leave it as it is you will be spending at least another $100 to make it 922r compliant. At the time this rifle was imported by Century and sold (ca 1993) the law was it could not have barrel threads for a muzzle attachment (flashhider)...
You definitely got a good deal on your FAL with all the magazines and ammo. It looks like what you have is a Brit or Aussie Inch type lower on a metric Imbel receiver. CAI built them that way often especially during the AWB. Be careful ordering original stocks and pistol grip as metric will...
It is the same thing the Dems. have been doing for years. On the gun issue the theme is to divide and conquer with all the talk about evil "assault rifles". Even some members of my gun club are convinced and say you don't need a semi-auto rifle to hunt with. The second amendment has NOTHING...
I posted this over in the FalFiles but I thought I would share the story with you guys.
I think all of us dream of going into an old house and finding a stashed away gun or having a relative who hands one over saying it has been around for years and they don't want it anymore. The story is...
I have a 30mm dummy round I bought at a garage sale 3-4 years ago. I don't want to sell it though as it looks impressive on the shelf next to my 20mm round which is next to my .50 which is next to my .30-06, which is next to my 7.62x51...on and on. You get the picture. ;)
You should be slapped, but not for BUYING the Enfield but for even thinking about re-chambering the old war horse. Yes, any re-chambering will lessen collector value to next to nothing. The old .303 Brit. is a fine cartridge and there would be no gain at all to re-chamber to 7.62x54, another...
Yes, the bad guys used AK's firing full auto, an illegally modified H&K, the M16/AR15 mix up, etc. It all is confusing to the non-shooting, non-enlightened public who see all guns which "look like that" as evil. Many people will be focused on the video and will not hear nor care what is being...
I also enjoy the History Channel and overall find their programming refreshing and informative in the way they treat weapons of all kinds. I did notice the plug for Kerry in the riverboat story and I also thought it was a little out of place. I have not yet seen this program but I am also...
One option you have is to replace the issue front post with a "KNS" cross hair type front sight. Several people have commented they like them. DSA at www.dsarms.com and Brownells both sell them at about $25 each.
Another thing to consider is the standard metric FAL is issued with 4...
