Are you handy in the shop (like you can hold a file or hammer without hurting yourself)? An Izmash Saiga will be as true to the design as you can get. Plus they are fun to convert back to true AK form.

That's like comparing a Ferrari and Lamborghini. Both are top-tier builders. I ended up going with a LMT lower and BCM midlength upper and am happy with the end result.

I've run a .22lr can on my 10/22, AR-15 with CMMG conversion, ceiner 1911 .22lr conversion, walther p22, they all were fine. I didn't think about the thread length though. I'll have to get one of those adapters for the AR.

I'm pretty sure it's normal for an AKM. My vector is the same way. The detent keeps it from turning and since it doesn't contact the bore it doesn't affect anything. What are you worried about? Does it have enough slop to make noise or something when shooting?

That's my view of it too. If you are committing yourself to fire it could quickly turn from justifiable homicide to murder if the bad guy decides to do something crazy, like turn around or change his mind... "Sorry, I already pulled it out, gotta shoot you in the back" isn't a great defense. :p

Saiga, the real deal. I think they are still around $500 or less, +130 or so in parts to un-neuter it. Really fun to convert too.
